This course briefly reviews early civilizations and religions of the world, the Middle Ages, and then more closely examines colonialism, imperialism, nationalism, world wars, the Cold War, dictators, democratic movements and recent developments across the globe. Grading Policy: Students are expected to come prepared for class on time with a mobile device and a positive attitude and good participation. Students who are not prepared or do not participate will receive a "Z" in the gradebook for that day. Work is expected to be turned in on time. Each day an assignment is late will result in ten points being taken off. According to Dade County policy, students may only make up work for excused absences and they must do so within a week of being absent. More than 10 unexcused absences may result in automatic failure of the course. Good attendance is key to doing well and if the student is absent it is their responsibility to ask classmates or check my website on miamibeachhigh.dadeschools.net or their class on My Big Campus to see what is due. Grading Criteria: Notebook (electronic is preferred but paper will be accepted): 5 grades, Students are expected to keep a notebook for my class with the following sections: 1) Foundations 2) 600-1450 3) 1450-1750 4) 1750-1900 5)1900-present Notebooks are graded as a whole. Notebooks are checked on test days. Tests: 5 grades, a combination of multiple choice and essay. Quizes: 1-3 grades (in addition to regular quizzes, any assignment may be collected and counted as a quiz grade: homework, classwork, maps, warm-up or wrap up activities) Project: 3-5 grades, students should expect at least one project per marking period.
