Rocks and Minerals Think Tac Toe
Directions: Choose 3 activities in a row to complete. Your choices may go down or across, but they
may NOT go diagonally. A requirement checklist for each activity with which you will be graded is on
the back. You may turn in the activities as you complete them, but all 3 activities must be completed
and turned in by Friday, October 9th. A suggested timeline for completion is listed below.
Suggested timeline for completion:
1st activity due Thursday, October 1st
2nd activity due Tuesday, October 6th
3rd activity due Friday, October 9th
This assignment will be counted as a test grade. Late assignments will lose 11 points per day late.
After 3 days late (Wednesday, October 14th), a zero will be earned.
Create a rock product cube
that studies one type of rock in
depth.
Plan and conduct a survey to
determine how many people
can name all three types of
rocks. Make a graph of the
results.
Make an acrostic for
sedimentary, igneous, and
metamorphic rocks.
Make a collage of household
items that are made from
minerals and their products.
Make a crossword puzzle for
rocks and their properties.
Write and perform a rock cycle
song or rap.
Write 3 Three Facts and a Fib
about how sedimentary rocks
are formed, how igneous rocks
are formed, and how
metamorphic rocks are
formed. (3 separate ones)
Visit the school’s library. After
looking at all of the books on
rocks and the rock cycle,
choose the one you like best
and develop a new book cover
for it.
Read about or research rock
collecting as a hobby. Design a
brochure to promote that
hobby.

Requirements for Activities
Make sure you follow the requirements below for the activities you have chosen. This is how you will
be graded. The point values are listed next to the requirements. Each activity is worth 10 points.
Product Cube
 All six sides of the cube must be filled
with complete sentences and correct
information 10 pts
 The template you must use is posted
on my website (Adv Science tab,
documents section)
 Should be neatly written or typed
 Name must be printed neatly on the
bottom of one of the sides
 Should be submitted flat for grading









Acrostic
 8.5” by 11” 1 pt
 Neatly written or typed
 Target words will be written down the
left side of the paper
 Each descriptive phrase must begin
with one of the letters from the target
word 2 pts
 Each descriptive phrase chosen must
be correct and related to the target
word (no repeated information) 4 pts
 Should have 3 separate acrostic
pages, one for each type of rock 3 pts
Song/Rap
 Words must make sense 3 pts
 Needs to be recorded and saved on a
flash drive 3 pts
 Written words will be turned in with
flash drive 2 pts
 Should be at least 1 minute in length

 The flash drive will be given right
back to you after Mrs. Eriquez saves a
copy
