In 1858, geographer Antonio Snider-Pellegrini made these two maps showing
his version of how the American and African continents may once have fit
together, then later separated.
Plate Tectonics
Not until the 1960’s had geologists amassed enough
evidence to support the existence of large moving plates;
which became the Theory of Plate Tectonics.
Plate Tectonics
The Theory of Plate Tectonics describes the movement of the
Earth’s surface. It presumes the lithosphere is divided into plates and
convection currents within the mantle move these plates.
