AP Calculus AB 2011--2012

Course Description: This year long course is intended to qualify students for credit in, or exemption
from, a first semester college calculus course. Topics include functions, graphs, limits, derivatives,
and integrals. Our focus is on skill and concept development to prepare students to score well on the
Advance Placement Examination.
Text: Calculus: Graphical, Numerical, Algebraic, 3rd Edition. (2007 Addison Wesley) You are
responsible for the book issued to you. The replacement cost is at least $61.47.
Prerequisites: One year of precalculus or its equivalent.
Materials:
 LARGE three ring binder solely for this class.
 Graphing calculator (TI-89 or TI-83 plus)
 Every day you must bring your textbook, binder, paper, calculator, and a pencil or pen.
Class Format: Classroom activities will include a review of homework, lecture, questions and
answers time, individual and group work, and technology based activities.

Tests: All tests have equal value. Early in the semester you will have unit tests. Beginning about
mid-semester the remainder of the tests will be cumulative. By the end of fall semester, you will take
AP style tests. Tests will not be reviewed until all students have had the opportunity to take or makeup their test.
Test Make-up: If a student is absent the day before a test, the student will take the test on the
scheduled day. If a student is absent the day of the test, the student will take the test the next day
(during class time) the student is in class unless the student missed 3 or more consecutive days. In this
case, the student will have 10 school days to take the make-up test after school. For planned absences
(field trips, etc.) the student may make other arrangements before the absence to make up the test.
Attendance: County policy will be followed. Please refer to student handbook.
RULES AND REGULATIONS
 Students are expected to report to class on time and observe school regulations concerning
discipline.
 Students are expected to come to class each day prepared. They should bring with them their text
book, notebook, calculator and pencils. No one will be allowed to return to their locker once they
have arrived in class.
 Students should be aware of the school's policy regarding cheating and will be held accountable on
all tests and homework.
 ALL work that is handed in must be neat.
 No ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION devices (cell, phones, I-pods, PDA’s etc.) are to be used
at ANY time!
