How Can Parents and Carers Help Strathblane Primary School?
If you have a child at Strathblane Primary School and Nursery Class, we know you will want
the very best for your child and that you will want to help in any way you can. Whatever
your circumstances, there are many different ways in which you can make a contribution to
making our school be the best it can be. Here is a reminder of some things we could all be
doing:

Send your child to school fully prepared
The staff produce amazing results from a tiny budget, but you can help free up that
budget for other things by ensuring your child comes to school with a bulging pencil
case! Kids love stationery, so why not indulge them in some pens, pencils, erasers,
sharpeners, rulers or pritt sticks to help both them and their school.

Be equipped for our lovely weather
Remember your school days, sitting inside at a desk all day? Thankfully, our lucky
children now get to do far more of their work and play outdoors. In addition to
providing your children with a gym kit, parents are requested to provide an ‘outdoor’ kit
too, including wellies, and a warm and waterproof jacket. As an easy option you could
give your child a pair of wellies, a spare pair of school trousers and perhaps waterproof
trousers to be kept in school, to save you having to think about their footwear every
morning. Please ensure everything is clearly labelled with your child’s name!

Raise funds from the comfort of your armchair – easyfundraising.org.uk
From your weekly shop to Christmas presents, whenever you shop online you can raise
funds for the school by registering Strathblane Primary School as your supported cause
on http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk. From Amazon and Asda to Toys R Us and Tesco,
by going through the easyfundraising site it just takes a few extra clicks, at no cost to
you, to raise funds for the school. The school has only been using this for a few months,
has only 17 users so far and has already raised over £70. Imagine how much we could
raise in December if all the parents used it for their Christmas shopping!

Use the school clothing bin rather than your recycling box
Ever noticed that large green metal container near the nursery garden? The school get
paid for the contents of our ‘Ragbag’ textile recycling facility so please use that for your
old clothes rather than the one in the library car park!
 Join the ‘Hundred Club’
The Parent Council run a ‘100 club’ where members have the chance to win one of three
monthly cash prizes, with the balance going to school funds – a win, win situation!
 Be an active member of the Parent Forum
Every parent of a child in the school and nursery is automatically a member of the
parent forum. Each year the parent forum elect 7 members to form the Parent Council,
who are there to represent the views of ALL the parents. Please use that platform to
find out about what is going on at the school, and to make your views and ideas known.
You can do that in a number of ways:
o Speak to one of us in the playground
o Email us at strathparentcouncil@gmail.com
o Visit our website: http://www.strathparentcouncil.org/
o Come to a meeting – the best way to find out first-hand what is going on at the
school
o Consider joining the Parent Council in the future, or one of our thriving subcommittees (Fundraising and School Grounds groups)
o Support our fundraising events – there are many different ways in which you can
show your support, from providing home baking, volunteering to help or just by
coming along and enjoying the event
 Christmas Fair – Friday 6th December 6.30-9pm
 Comedy Night – Saturday 1st February
 Summer Fair – Saturday 7th June
And for those of you that could spare a little of your time, have you
considered volunteering at the school?
The school are delighted to welcome volunteers to share a little of their time, expertise or
enthusiasm with the school. From regular volunteers to one-off visits, there are numerous
ways to help:
 In or after school clubs (sports, chess, music, maths...anything else you can think of?)
 Help on ‘litter pick’ days or class excursions to our local community
 Come and talk to the children one day to share a particular skill or interest from your
profession or hobby, from musical instruments to science, art to dentistry – we all have
something to give!
 Help maintain and improve our school buildings and grounds – you can volunteer at our
next painting day, or let us know if you’re handy with a hammer or paintbrush and have
any ideas for improving the school.
 Come along to the next family ‘welly day’ – after a hugely successful Autumn day, which
resulted in our fabulous new tyre play structures, another day is being planned for the
Spring
Thank you from the children, staff and parent council for all your support!
