(Name and current location)
Docket Number :
F.B.I. No.:
U.S. Marshal No.:
Mass. Id. No.:
Request for Designation
Dear Sir/Madam:
Enclosed please find a Certification of Identity form duly executed by the above
named inmate.
Please find this a request on behalf of the above referenced inmate for a “low” or
‘medium” designation and placement at the (enter preferred facility) Federal facility in
the (enter state). The defendant requests alternatively placement at the (enter preferred
facility) facility in enter state.
I am attaching a number of pleadings that were filed in his case that took place at
the United States District Court, District of Massachusetts in front of the Honorable
Justice Patti B. Saris on August 29, 2011. Judge Saris accepted the recommendation

posited by Pretrial Services and the Office of the United States Attorney of 151 months
constituting the lowest number of months under a United States Guideline calculation of
a total base offense level of 34 with a criminal history category of I. I believe Judge Saris
did so based in great part on these pleadings and in recognition that (enter client’s name)
demonstrated such profound regret, remorse, humiliation, and shame and demonstrated
such a deep desire for rehabilitation and recovery from his addiction to pornography that
the minimum number under the Guidelines was warranted.
As is indicated by the attached letters, (enter client’s name) has a large and
extended community of family and friends upon whom he relies for the support he needs
and will need to address his addiction, recovery, and eventual release.
I also trust that Judge Saris did not believe (enter client’s name) to be a danger to
society or a violent offender. Prior to these offenses (enter client’s name) had no criminal
record. Up to scant years before his arrest (enter client’s name) became involved in
viewing pornography on the internet which gradually digressed to viewing unlawful
images. He believes his arrest was fortuitous because it gave him back the perspective he
had during the majority of his adult life which involved an interest only in adult
relationships.
He did not commit any violent acts in furtherance of the commission of his
offenses nor while incarcerated. He is certainly not a risk to other inmates. (enter
client’s name) is not a flight risk, did not resist his arrest, nor has he demonstrated any
unwillingness to cooperate. He has an appropriate level of respect for law enforcement
officers and staff.
In keeping with addressing the desiderata you have published regarding
designation, it is important for you to note that the (enter preferred facility) Federal
facility is very close to his Massachusetts family and the (enter preferred facility)
Federal facility is close to his extended family. It will provide great solace for his family
and comfort for (enter client’s name)that he and they can enjoy regular visits.
(enter client’s name) is also anticipating participation in programs provided at
(enter preferred facility) or (enter preferred facility) that will allow him to make best
use of his time, comply with the terms of his Judgment, and give him the best likelihood
of success in his rehabilitation.

Finally, I feel compelled to point out that Judge Saris recommended placement at
either (enter preferred facility) , (enter preferred facility) , or (enter preferred
facility) as part of the Judgment.
Thank you for your time and consideration of this request.
Sincerely yours,
Joseph J. Balliro, Jr.
