Element Project Commercial & Advertisement Instructions & Example Introduction • You will write and perform a Commercial that advertises your element. You also must include a Written Advertisement, as seen on a billboard or in a magazine. Ideas include, but are not limited to, convincing the audience to visit the element in its natural habitat, encouraging the audience to buy the element, or persuading the audience to use the element (be creative). You may ask a classmate to help in the presentation of your commercial but they are still required to do their own element project. • This counts as a 100-point assessment (test) grade. Pay special attention to the required details so you don’t lose points. (View the Rubric on the Elements Project web site.) • Some parts need to be done on the computer and some by hand. Process / Parts A. Research your. Use your research to complete your Fact Sheet document in Google Classroom. B. Fill out the bibliography to report your sources. C. Design and create your advertisement (project) using your Fact Sheet (instructions in this presentation)! D. Present your commercial to the class. Project Requirements (Rubric Part C) 1. Element’s Statistics (FACT section) 2. Element’s Commercial (CREATIVE section) 3. Print Advertisement (STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS and ILLUSTRATIONS) Details and examples for each on the following slides. FACT section: Written • Element atomicAdvertisement number, symbol, name, and atomic • • • • • • • mass (as seen on Periodic Table) Pictures of its uses; minimum 3 Who discovered it and when Reason for advertisement (example: why visit its natural habitat, why use it or buy it) Catchy slogan 3 other interesting facts Border that relates to element Size: minimum 12” X 18” Example – Hydrogen Combining with oxygen In the nonmetal classification, With the lightest mass, The versatility of Hydrogen To make water, Its phase at room temperature, And also in stars None other than gas. much, much farther. Founded by Henry Cavendish In 1766, You would be surprised Hydrogen is a gas, The amount of this. Holding 75% of elemental mass. With an atomic number Hydrogen was created naturally too, of one, Heck hydrogen is part of you. And with no neutrons Bohr Diagram it’s sure to be fun. Lewis Structure Because neutrons are way overrated ILLUSTRATION & STRUCTURAL DRAWINGS Your Advertisement should reflect the element represented. Additionally, your ad MUST include the following: • The element symbol with the Lewis dot structure • A Bohr diagram To support your slogan, your advertisement MUST also have the following: • A list of the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons in your element • Border that relates to element • Pictures of its uses; minimum 3 CREATIVE Section: Commercial (must have written copy for final presentation, underline all facts within your script): • • • • • • • • • Element name, period, group Family name and what it means to be part of it Number of electrons in its outer shell (Valence electrons) How it reacts with other elements, water, and air Physical characteristics; appearance, texture, state at room temperature History; who discovered it, when, where, and how it was discovered Where the element can be found in its natural state Uses; minimum of 3 Catchy slogan – Repetitive saying or tune or song that will help audience remember facts (used minimum 3 times in the commercial) • Time: 2-3 minutes Example – Hydrogen Commercial In the nonmetal classification With the lightest mass, Its phase at room temperature None other than gas. Combining with oxygen To make water, And also in stars for group period, proton much, much farther. valence is 1 too, that’s its electron, so cool. Founded by Henry Cavendish In 1766, You would be surprised The amount of this. This is my ode to hydrogen, Number 1 on the chart and number 1 in my heart. This is my ode to hydrogen, Number 1 on the chart and number 1 in my heart. Like I said before a gas, Holding 75% of elemental mass. Hydrogen was created naturally too, Heck hydrogen is part of you. With an atomic number of one, 1 proton and electron, Hydrogen is always #1, This is my ode to hydrogen, Number 1 on the chart and number 1 in my heart. 3-20 minutes after the Big Bang, hydrogen was first to join the elemental gang. Hydrogen is an element On which we depend, found in many compounds, from beginning to end. Here is my ode to hydrogen, And with no neutrons Number 1 on the chart and it’s sure to be fun. number 1 in my heart. . Presentation (Rubric Part D) • Perform your commercial for the class (visual aids are recommended). • You may choose to videotape yourself performing the commercial and present it on the classroom projector. You must test this prior to your presentation date. If you create a video, you still must have the written advertisement on the day of your presentation. Bonus points for acting out your commercial • Be informative and creative. Have Fun!
