Study Abroad Cody: Hi Amie, how’s it going? Amie: Hey. Actually, I’m really stressed out. I’m going abroad next semester and I don’t know what classes I’m taking! Cody: Did you go over all that with your study abroad advisor? Amie: Who? Cody: The business advising center has study abroad advisors to help students choose their classes and get them approved. I meet with Teresa before I studied abroad in Korea last semester. She was very helpful. Amie: Really? How can I see a study abroad advisor? Cody: Well, first you need to attend a workshop. Amie: Oh, you mean a CBA Study Aboard Workshop? I went to one of those last semester. They told me all about the different programs like the one I am doing where I only have to pay SDSU tuition. They also told me about the exchange programs like the one you did where you can get a stipend, free housing, they even told me I can get paid internships abroad. Cody: Ok, well since you already attended a study abroad workshop, then you can meet with a study abroad advisor. Just call the Business advising center to make an appointment. Amie: Actually, I think I remember them telling me that a study abroad advisor can tell me what courses were already approved at the school I want to go to or help me submit petitions for courses I wanted to take that weren’t approved. Cody: Yeah, I got all my courses approved before I studied abroad last semester and now they are all on my degree evaluation. Amie: Cool. I am going to go to the BAC right now and make an appointment. Prerequisite Problems Tommy: Hey Erika, what’s wrong? Erika: I didn’t finish all my prerequisites for Management 405 and the faculty instructor dropped me! Tommy: Wow, you should go visit an advisor in the BAC. Erika: How can they help me? Tommy: Well, they can go through your Degree Evaluation with you, make sure you fulfilled all your prerequisites, and then help you fill out a graduation application. Erika: What do you mean? I have to pay again? Tommy: Unfortunately, if you change your semester of graduation, yes you do have to pay again. Erika: Nobody told me about all this prerequisite requirement stuff!! Tommy: Well, it is your responsibility as a student to know your prerequisites. And although you learned about them at Transfer Orientation, if you ever need any help or clarification, make sure you visit the BAC and they will help you out. Erika: Gosh, I really wish I would have paid more attention at transfer orientation. I’ll visit the BAC right now and find out what my options are. Erika and Tommy: Bam SDSU Grade Point Average Consequences A: Ready to go? B: Yeah, I guess. A: What’s wrong? B: I just got this webportal message that says I am disqualified from SDSU and I can’t come back for a year. I was admitted two semesters ago and I came in from a community college with a 3.5 gpa. A: Why don’t you stop in the Business Advising Center to get some help? B: Do you think they can get me back in? A: Well, I mean they can go through your academic record and explain why you got disqualified. B: But I just had two courses with a C- each semester! This can’t be right! A: Yeah well, why don’t you go talk to an advisor about it? I mean they should be able to go through your disqualification and even explain some options for next year. B: Ok, where is this Business Advising Center? A: Well, it’s actually right here in the College of Business building in EBA 448. B: Tight. Repeating a Course C: Hey, Lilia. I think I have a problem. L: What’s up Christina? C: Well, I’m a Marketing major and I got a D in Management 350 the first time. I took it again and I got a C- the second time. This is not good! L: I think you need to go see an advisor in the Business Advising Center. C: What can they do to help me? L: I don’t think you needed to take that course over again. The business advisor can go through your degree evaluation and your major requirements and help you figure out if you need to retake anything. C: But my friend told me I needed to get a C in all my business courses. L: I think the BAC website and catalog say something different. They might be confusing having to get a 2.0 or a C average in your major requirements with having to get a C in all business courses. C: So I don’t have to get a C in any of my business courses? L: I am saying that depending on your major some courses require a C and some don’t. You really need to go to the Business Advising Center they will be able to help you figure it out. C: So I took that class again for nothing? That’s horrible! L: Just make sure you go to the Business Advising Center before you retake any business course. C: Definitely, I’m going to go right now.
