American History 1 Honors – Industrialization Essay
The American Industrial Revolution of the late 19th century would see the rise of
exceptionally successful businessmen (otherwise known as “captains of industry”)
who would master the arts of innovation and technology to amass fortunes
previously unheard of in American society. These same businessmen would be
controversial figures due the business practices they implemented to achieve their
success and would be sometimes regarded as “robber barons”.
For this assignment, you are to write a complete formal essay deciding whether or
not successful businessmen of the era such as John D. Rockefeller, Andrew
Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and others would best be described as “captains of
industry” or “robber barons”.
Essays are to be written in MLA format:
Typed, Times New Roman font, Size 12 type, double-spaced, standard one-inch
margins.
Essays are to be approximately 2 pages in length.
