Computer Networks What is computer network? A Computer network is group of computers that are connected together in order to send and receive information to each other. Computer networking is a subclass within engineering that deals with connecting a lot of devices such as a computer, laptop or an Ipad. Computer networks also deals with branches such as telecommunications, computer science, information technology and computer engineering. There are many ways to connect two computers with each other. The basic way to connect two computers is to connect a cable two the two computers. You can use this kind of network to share files, a printer or even an Internet connection. One other way is to use an Ethernet which is a data link layer technology. Ethernet networks can link entire schools or office buildings using network bridge devices. Bridge devices reduce the amount of traffic on a LAN by dividing it into two segments. Another way is Serial and parallel which is also called Direct Cable Connection (DCC). DCC offers lower performance but offers the same basic functionality as Ethernet cables. Networking is one of the most significant steps in the electronic evolution since the invention of the PC. Computer networks are very useful to many businesses, but without a network, those businesses would have to spend twice the amount of money on computerization than they would have to by implementing a network. The Local Area Network (LAN) is used for smart distances with a high data transfer rate. The Wide Area Network (WAN) is used for greater physical distances with a low transfer rate. For a small company, LAN is the best option because it is relatively cheap and data transfer rates are high. A computer networking protocol the set of rules that defines the way data and information will be transferred from one computer to another. The most common protocol is TCP/IP model. This protocol is divided into two parts, TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) which decides how the systems will communicate with each other and IP (Internet Protocol), which handles the part for addressing the packets and routing them to their respective destinations. In conclusion, computer networks are mainly used for sharing information. The individual computer users do not have to store in data and applications into their own computers. They can simply access the same information from the server machine. There are many ways to connect different pc’s with each other. One of them is using a cable. Another way is to use Ethernet. Today, computer networks are the core of modern communication and I hope it will achieve more in the future.
