The B.A. in Economics requires foreign language proficiency through the intermediate level (202) and a philosophy course. Students interested in this degree are encouraged to begin their foreign language at JTCC. QFIN is an interdisciplinary major that includes minors in economics and math. It does not require students to complete the BBA core courses Students interested in QFIN should complete MTH166 in lieu of MTH163 and MTH173 in lieu of MTH270 and take MTH174 and MTH277 as transfer electives. Students may also consider completing the General Studies degree incorporating the aforementioned math, ECO201 and 202 and ACC211. International Business requires foreign language beyond the intermediate level. It is strongly recommended that students complete the foreign language proficiency before transferring with the associate’s degree for this major. 2 Students must complete 10 lower-level B.B.A. core courses before they are formally accepted to the JMU College of Business. These courses transfer to the College of Business at JMU (JTCC course is listed first, followed by the JMU equivalency in parentheses): ACC 211 & 212 (COB 241 & 242), ECO 201 & 202 (ECON 200 & 201), MTH 270 (MATH 205), and BUS220 (COB191) or MTH 240 (MATH220 will substitute for COB 191). There are four additional courses required, COB 202, COB204, COB218, and COB 291, for which there are no equivalents at John Tyler. These 10 courses comprise the lower-level BBA core. In order to be formally accepted to the JMU College of Business students must achieve a JMU GPA of 2.7 in the core courses (with the exception of calculus). Only grades for courses taken at JMU will be used in the GPA calculation. 3 The history/political science elective requirement can be satisfied by the following courses: PLS 135, PLS 211, PLS 212, PLS 241, HIS 101, HIS 102, HIS 111, HIS 112, HIS 121, HIS 122. 4 Degree requirements include a conceptual humanities course (i.e., literature, philosophy, religion) that offers breadth of knowledge, therefore the elective requirement may be satisfied by completing an approved conceptual humanities course.
