As a teacher for Gates County High School, I feel excited and thrilled to be your maestro. You are welcome to call me Señor Ayala (A – YA – LA.) I’m certain that if you can pronounce my Spanish last name, you will have no difficulty learning Spanish. Relax! Learning Spanish is fun and nowadays can be strategically helpful, as we transition into a more and more diverse society. Classroom Guidelines [(for students) & (guests)] Be in your assigned seat, quiet & working on the assigned work. Bring all materials to class & take them with you when you leave. Treat every person in this room with dignity and respect. Follow directions the first time they’re given. NO HATS OF ANY SORT IN THE CLASSROOM NO DRINKING, EATING OR CHEWING. Please do not walk in with drinks, food or gum to my classroom. Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the Gates County High School, the Gates County School District, and my in my classroom. This classroom is a “No Whining Zone.” That means that there will be no whining for any reason. Everything that I do is in your best interest, so please respect the “No Whining Zone” this semester. NO ELECTRONIC DEVICES IN THE CLASSROOM. If a not authorized device is found, I will ask you for it and your parent or guardian will pick it up from the front office. Classroom Procedures Entering the room: Please enter quietly and be quiet, Señor Ayala will start class instruction as soon as everyone is quiet and seating down. Señor Ayala will deduct participation points from students not complying. Have a seat Food or drinks are not allowed in the classroom. GUM is not allowed in the classroom. Takeout your materials Bring Paper and Sharpened Pencils every day. Bring a Notebook to keep notes for you to study for quizzes and exams. Review agenda When student is tardy: Enter quietly Excused: place excuse note on my desk and takeout your work. Infraction Notice 1st Warning = Infraction Notice; 2nd Warning = Parent Contact + Infraction Notice + Parent/ Guardian & Student signatures, with a referral. Severe Clause Any student who uses profanity, fights, damages school property (this includes property of the teacher and other students,) or is disrespectful (as defined by the teacher,) will be sent to the office immediately. A referral will be issued and your parent will be contacted. Assignments All assignments should have the proper headings using the MLA format: Student Name: ____________ Assignment:____________ Señor Ayala st nd rd Spanish 1; 3; 4 / 1 ; 2 ; 3 ; 4th Period Date :____________ Complete the assignments on the due date; no make-ups allowed, you will get a zero, if not accomplished in the expected time or date. It is your responsibility to complete assignments, quizzes or tests, if you are absent. You will have a maximum of three days to schedule or complete work. Points will be deducted if improper headings are not in the MLA format. Grading Policy: Español 1 Summary If you finish your work early: Work on unfinished Spanish assignments. Read your choice Spanish short novel Spanish revistas. Ask for permission by raising your hand, and wait until I acknowledge you. Review vocabulary words, verbs’ conjugations and sentence forming. Do not start working on a different class work. Turning in Papers: Pass them to the front. “El maestro,” will come by and collect all stacks. Classroom discussions: Please participate. I want hear what you have to say. Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion. If your question is off topic write it down and ask later. Bathroom breaks: Raise your three fingers and wait for me to acknowledge. Bathroom breaks will not be granted until the end of the instruction or student work has been completed. You will get a maximum of three bathroom breaks per semester, so plan accordingly before you come to class or wait until the bell rings. Students not utilizing the bathroom breaks during the semester will get a point on their exams for each time they didn’t use their privilege. Moving around the room: Standing up, talking or moving around the classroom is not allowed, unless instructed by señor Ayala. Throwing papers or any other material in the classroom garbage is not allowed. You must ask permission by raising your hand. Class dismissal: The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. Do not start packing up prior to the bell. Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with “Hasta Mañana Estudiantes.” Schedule checkout: Please let me know as you enter the classroom. Quietly raise your hand to get my attention. Pack your materials and leave at the scheduled time.
