PROFFESIONAL EXPERIENCE:

12/2013 – Present

Canine Trainer

2D Law Enforcement Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC

 Manage the safety and advanced training of over 45 Military Working Dog teams which include patrol (bite) trained explosive/drug detector dogs, specialized search dogs (offleash explosive detection), and combat tracker dogs.

 Oversee and evaluate the training and utilization of canine teams, recommend improvements to correct deficiencies and to establish an optimal training program for the progression of canine teams, enabling the support of operations at home and abroad.

 Monitor training and utilization of canine teams, ensuring the effectiveness of each team; conduct bi-annual canine team assessments, identifying deficiencies and performing follow-up assessments as needed, ensuring all teams meet or exceed all standards.

 Develop training plans and techniques for over 45 canine teams in order to allow teams to advance in training and meet mission critical goals.

 Supervise the input of daily training/utilization records into the online Working Dog

Management System; review records daily to ensure deficiencies are properly documents and that all training requirements are met.

 Instruct over 50 personnel on the proper handling, storage, security and accountability of live explosive training aids; perform an inventory of explosives every 30 days and each time the explosives are issued in training.

 Handle a patrol/drug detector dog in order to fulfill counter-drug operational requirements for the unit.

Kennel Master

11/2010-12/2013

Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Iwakuni, Japan

 Managed kennel operations for 6 canine teams and 10 personnel, providing security to over 10,000 personnel by expertly employing the teams based on risk assessment and security needs.

 Reviewed canine program requirements and ensured all canine assets and personnel were within compliance, resulting in kennels successfully passing the first round of inspections conducted by Headquarters Marine Corps Law Enforcement Accreditation

Teams.

 Delegated and scheduled daily work assignments to ensure that continuous security and anti-terrorism support was achieved.

 Ensured that program policy, standards and guidelines were communicated in a clear and effective manner to all personnel assigned to the canine section.

 Managed the explosive/drug training aids while serving as the Primary Custodian to both substances; ensured all records and documentation was properly maintained and that the training aids were handled and safeguarded as required by program policy.

 Responsible for the accountability, maintenance and safeguarding of all required equipment and supplies needed to properly train canine teams and conduct operations, totaling over $1M.

 Concurrently served as Canine Trainer from 11/2010 – 08/2011.

Military Policeman/Patrol-Explosive Detection Canine Handler

11/2010 – 11/2012

Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Iwakuni, Japan

 Responsible for canine daily care and maintenance which included but was not limited to necessary health checks, feeding/watering, grooming, and maintaining a safe and sanitary condition in the kennels.

 Conducted daily training in order to advance canine on required tasks; successfully maintained canine certification per regulations.

 Conducted law enforcement operations with assigned explosive detection canine and assigned government vehicle in accordance with all standard operating practices and procedures.

 Responded to over 30 emergency calls for service, acting as the On-Scene Commander as needed, or when the call specifically needed canine support.

 Assisted in investigations involving violations of local policies and law; performed routine walking/vehicle patrols with assigned canine, enhancing base counter-terrorism measures by acting as a force multiplier and visual deterrent.

 Conducted searches on cargo, aircrafts, air terminals, luggage, facilities, vehicles, buses, sea ports, and other venues to detect the presence of explosives and to deter the entry of such materials onto the installation.

 Routinely accessed the canine explosive scent kit in order to handle and transport the materials to daily canine training.

Military Policeman/Patrol-Explosive Detection Canine Handler

Headquarters and Support Battalion, Camp Lejeune, NC

 Responsible for the daily care and maintenance of assigned canine, which included feeding/water, grooming, health checks and performing kennel sanitation to ensure a healthy living environment was provided for the canine.

 Conducted daily training in order to advance canine on required tasks; successfully maintained canine certification per regulations.

 Conducted routine vehicle/walking patrols aboard Camp Lejeune with assigned canine; made arrests/apprehensions, performed searches and seizures, detained suspects, and performed rights advisements.

 Provided assistance to the local community as required, responding to numerous calls for service ranging from motorist assistance to domestic disputes.

 Performed scheduled and random explosive detection sweeps in a multitude of areas aboard the installation, preventing the introduction of such materials aboard the installation; areas searched included but were not limited to vehicles, warehouses, barracks, post offices, open areas, aircrafts, flight lines, and aircraft hangars.

 Assisted criminal investigators from the Marine Corps and the Naval Criminal

Investigative Service with multiple investigations; provided canine support as required.

 Maintained the qualification/certification program for the canine section, ensuring that over 20 individuals were properly trained and qualified to handle explosive materials; conducted weekly classes to over 20 personnel on the hazards of handling the explosive canine scent kit, and ensured anyone involved in the transportation and handling of explosive materials did so in a safe manner.

 Successfully conducted over 3000 hours of overseas combat operations in support of

Operation Iraqi Freedom; operations included vehicle searches, roadway clearing, conducting vehicle checkpoint operations randomly throughout Iraq, presence patrols, and building searches.
