Aims:
To have pupils develop a knowledge and appreciation of Early Renaissance which will
allow them to;



Recall that the Renaissance began due to the rebirth of classical learning of
Greek and Roman art.
Identify three artists of the Early Renaissance and recall one artwork attributed
to each of them.
Recognize the importance of artists in recording and developing the social world
around them, with specific reference to the early renaissance.
Overall Learning Outcomes for the Scheme:









Identify the timeline we have been working with, early Renaissance 1400-1500
Locate the place, Florence, Italy.
Give a basic explanation about the Renaissance, such as the Renaissance Began
due to a rebirth of classical learning of Greek and Roman art.
Recall that Fillippo Brunelleschi rediscovered the principles of linear
perspective, known to ancient Greeks and Romans, invented a perspective
mirror and is the architect behind the Dome of the Duomo.
Recall Lorenzo Ghiberti, famous sculpture, created the gates of paradise for the
Duomo.
Recall Donatello made the first nude sculpture,”David”
Recall Paolo Uccello an apprentice for Ghiberti created paintings for the Duomo
and the “The Battle of San Romano”.
Name three artists and one artwork by each from the early renaissance.
Sketch each artwork and explain elements within each.

The Duomo, Florence. Italy's "birthplace of the Renaissance"
The dome was made by creating a dome underneath the existing dome we see today.
Filippo Brunelleschi the architect of the Florence Cathedral “Duomo” also created the
perspective mirror and used it to make a drawing of the Baptistry in Florenece.
Ghiberti's baptistery doors were later nicknamed the "Gates of Paradise" by
Michelangelo.
