DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Provides individualized comprehensive and compassionate nursing care to
patients in different emergency conditions.
2. Assists the doctors in initiation of emergency care, in initiation of cardiac and
respiratory life support, assist during intubation, performs gastric/lavage and
suctioning.
3. Demonstrate competence in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation.
4. Coordinates in planning nursing care of the patient with the multidisciplinary plan.
5. Carries out doctor’s order intelligently, accurately and promptly for
emergency treatment and procedures and accomplishes complete and
accurate documentation.
6. Understands the importance of using aseptic technique when performing
certain clinical procedure to minimize the risk of infection.
7. Set up intravenous infusion line for blood transfusion and drug infusion
under aseptic technique and then observes, records any untoward signs and
symptoms.
8. Checks all equipment on regular basis, making sure that all are in good
working condition. As part of the code blue team, to make sure that the
ACLS equipment like laryngoscope, cardiac monitor and defibrillator are
clean, available and functioning well at all times.
9. Render post-mortem care to patient and assists relatives for the grieving
process.
10. Establish and maintains good rapport with colleagues.
11. Assist the ER Physician in the evaluation and treatment of the patient’s
administration of specialized therapy and performance of diagnostic and
therapeutic procedures.
12. Records and reports relevant observations, interventions, clinical cause and
development.
13. Assists in the orientation, guidance, supervision, training and evaluation of
personnel and students.
14. Attends nursing service and ER meetings, updates and other meetings as
necessary.
15. Assists in the management of the Emergency Room and acts as a Senior Nurse
when delegated.
16. Prepares and packs supplies for sterilization and stores properly.
17. Prepares linens and other articles in the ER.
18. Prepares the charge slip for the patient and submit it to the Billing Section.
19. Sees to it that ER is clean for the patient and Staff.
20. Clears packs and sterilized instruments for minor procedures.
21. Maintains cleanliness and orderliness and prepares beds and other stretcher
covers.
