Visa Decision Maker/Counter Officer

Salary: up to BR$ 4037.00
Contract: This is a permanent position depending on the successful
completion of a 3 month probation period and character and police checks.
Position overview
The Visa Section at the Australian Embassy in Brasilia is responsible for
processing all applications for temporary visas to Australia from residents of
Brazil and permanent visa applications for residents of Brazil, Argentina,
Uruguay and Paraguay.
The role of the Visa Decision Maker/Counter Officer includes assessing and
deciding temporary entry visa applications as well as providing administrative
support to the Visa Section and Australian staff. This role may also include
project work and additional responsibilities as directed.
The Visa Decision Maker/Counter Officer reports directly to the Office
Manager and Australian staff. For a full list of duties and the selection criteria

Well developed written and oral communication skills in English and
Portuguese are required.

Duty Statement – Visa Decision Maker/Counter Officer
Duties may include the following;








Assess, manage and decide temporary entry visa applications;
Provide support in the processing of the migration caseload, including
file creation, interview schedules, including file movement, requesting
further documentation, responding to email correspondence, writing
records of discussions, archiving etc;
Undertake integrity checks and referrals as necessary;
Receive visa application fees and forms, issue receipts, including
registering applications, file creation and account for the daily takings;
Conduct and assist with interviews of visa applicants;
Liaise and respond to visa enquiries, agents and other stakeholders;
Undertake training of education, travel agents and other clients as
required;
Other administrative tasks and projects as required/directed.

5. Excellent written and oral communication skills and the capacity to draft
complex written correspondence in English and Portuguese
Familiarity with IT systems and the ability to navigate/interrogate
information from relevant systems.
