-Ethics && Morals Essay; I’m doing my essay on the ethics and morals between 4 characters. I choose ethics because it has to do with how the people act in different ways. Also how they react to things around them. The characters are from each the movie “Blood Diamond” and the book “The Fountainhead”. I want to start out explaining the difference between ethics and morals. Well a ethic is the branch of philosophy dealing with values relating to human conduct with respect to the rightness and wrongness of certain actions and to the goodness and badness of the motives and ends of such actions. A moral is a concerned with the principles or rules of right conduct or distinction between right and wrong. They are alike in many ways because the both have to do with doing right and knowing the difference between right and wrong. A moral is something that is taught to you. And 1 a ethic is something pretty much taking what is being taught to you too use out in daily life. You can have bad morals or bad ethics that you can pick up from bad associations or from your family. Well basically the two characters I am going to compare now are Solomon and, Howard. Solomon is from the movie “Blood Diamond”. Solomon was a very kind man and was taught to respect everyone no matter what color. He wanted the best education for his son so he could become a doctor. He wanted no less for his family and also didn’t want his son struggling or having a life in war, which he also didn’t believe in. He really believed in keeping his family together when they weren’t he got upset and really needed someone’s help to find them. Basically you help me and I help you. He was very caring, appreciative and, thankful for what he had. Even though he did not have much. He had loads of pride and really never let anything 2 get to him. No matter how much Danny put him down he still believed in his judgment. 1. Howard who is from the book “The Fountainhead” he was a man that thought highly of himself. Howard didn’t care much about what others thought, or what they thought he should do. He only cared about art. And his art meant a lot to him. He felt as if what he did was best. He told them he didn’t need anyone to teach him how to do what he did best. The reason why I say he thinks highly of himself is because when he spoke to someone he never looked them in the eye, he always made people feel uncomfortable in their own skin. Also he made them feel underneath him because he acted as if he was the only one there and, that the person didn’t matter well that’s how he made them feel anyway. He needed someone to change the way he thought. And the lady he married did that. Even 3 though she tried to hide him from her family. The other character’s I am going to compare are Danny and The Dean. Danny is also from the “Blood Diamond”. He cared about money the most and would do anything to get it. He helped Solomon out but he expected things in return, which was the diamond. Basically you help me I help you type things. In the ending he showed that he was very caring but that was after he got shot. He gave the diamond back because he was going to die and had no use for it but I think that it was pride thing too. I say this because he didn’t want the man to feel like they won because they got the diamond from him. So instead he just gave the diamond back to Solomon that had a better use for it. Also he was very controlling. I say this because when Solomon did not do what he wanted he got angry and attacked him on many different accounts. From the book “The Fountainhead” was the Dean. He was 4 a kind man you could see and listened to others opinions but if he didn’t like them he got a little upset but he tried not to let it get to him. He argued very little and always put his point out. He didn’t like when people undermined his authority and that’s what he thought Howard was doing. The dean really only saw his points as rights though and, didn’t see no bad in people until they showed it to them. I say this because before he heard Howard’s point of view he didn’t see anything bad about what he was doing or what he did until, they got into a disagreement about the stuff that was taught in his school. Howard thought that the school couldn’t teach him how to build in the real world so he decided he wanted to just get right to designing without the degree. The dean thought this was wrong and got a little upset and told him no one was going to hire him without it basically. These are what make each character morals different. 5
