Get-Up-And-Go(Energy) Educreation Center # 3 Developed by: Eddie Taylor Sulphur High 9th Grade Next Generation Science Standards: List full Next Generation Science Standards here. http://nextgenscience.org/next-generation-science-standards HS.PS-E Energy Construct models to represent and explain that all forms of energy can be viewed as either the movement of particles or energy stored in fields. Introduction: Energy is being misunderstood! It seems that people these days do not understand everything they need to know about energy, in particular the different forms of energy. It is sometimes not easy to differentiate the types or forms of energy. Energy comes in different forms like electrical, elastic, chemical, nuclear, etc… We will look at the two main types of energy. Kinetic energy which is energy of motion and potential energy which is stored energy. Establish the main difference between Kinetic and Potential Energy and types of energy conversions? Task: A local school just hired a new teacher and he has never taught before. The principle called our school and asked if we had a teacher willing to help out this new teacher. I volunteered my students because they are very creative and would be able to develop some technology based lessons for the new teacher to use. The first project will be to develop a lesson for the concept of energy. You will produce the either a video presentation or a karaoke video using Educreations App on the iPad. The presentation will include images in the form of diagrams and/or digital images as you narrate the relationship between the types of energy. You may also make a Karaoke type song. You will have to make up song lyrics and apply them to a song without lyrics. Process: To accomplish this task, you and your team will complete the following step-by-step instructions: 1. Before beginning the project, you and your team will need to access the following website: http://www.need.org/needpdf/FormsofEnergy.pdf 2. Individual team members will gather resources and/or investigate your area of expertise to complete your individual portion of this task … o o o o Presenter: Your role is to present the finished product and sing along with the Karaoke. Visual Designer: Your role is to take the lyrics and place them into an Educreation video synced to the recorded music. Composer: Your role is to record or download the music you will use for the Karaoke. Musical Artist: Your role is to practice and sign the music for the recording. OR o o o o Writer: You will generate the text. It may be hand written or you may use the Text tool. Narrator/ Voice: Your role is to record the text or script. Be sure to forward through your pictures as you narrate. Researcher: You will find the images needed and save them to the camera roll. You may also get images from the wed or take your own pictures with the iPad. Graphics Designer: Your role is to design the pages and sequence them according to the text and transcript. 3. You and your team will research and collect information about the types of energy. Be sure to keep your audience in mind as you plan. You will want to collaborate on the following: o What are the big questions that need to be answered for the presentation? o As a prewriting tool, complete a storyboard using the storyboard template. o Use the rubric to guide the quality of your presentation. o Be sure to include a title and credits slide. 4. Once the information is gathered you will incorporate the information into a song or presentation using the Educreations video on an iPad. a. You may pick any genre you would like to use for the song. Each team member will create lyrics for a song and the team will pick from these options. You may pick one or combine the best of more than one. b. Your other option will be to make a presentation using the Educreation App by first creating a Storyboard Template before creating the presentation. 5. You should incorporate the types of energy, energy conversions, kinetic and potential energy and the Law of Conservation of Energy. 6. You are now ready to put your project together. As a team you will add the music to the Educreation video and transition the slides to sync with the lyrics. Or add narration to your diagrams or picture and transition correctly. 7. As a team, review final project for accuracy. Be sure all team members are acknowledged for their work. 8. Save your project using one team member’s first.lastname plus the hour (ex. jane.doe_3rd) 9. Save the final project to in the Educreation App before sending a copy to eddie.taylor@cpsb.org 10. Your final grade will be determined by the presentation of your product. ***Refer to the rubric provided to understand the requirements that will be used for grading the presentation. ***Refer to the quick tips sheet for the Educreations App on the iPad. Evaluation: See attached rubric for Digital Storytelling: Educreations App Project. Reflective Question or Constructive Response: Upon completion of this learning center you will need to answer the following constructed response question: Describe the energy conversions that take place during a roller coaster ride from start to finish. Your answer should be a well-constructed paragraph that is a minimum of five complete sentences. You should have a topic sentence followed by a minimum of three sentences that elaborates on your topic. Finally, your last sentence should be a concluding statement. You will email your response to my class e-mail site: eddie.taylor@cpsb.org Adapted from resources found at the following website http://webquest.sdsu.edu/templates/lesson-template1.htm Based on a template from The WebQuest Page
