Ohio University International Council Meeting Minutes January 7, 2011 Members present: Elizabeth Clodfelter (Honors Tutorial College); Krista McCallum Beatty (ISFS); Kay-Anne Darlington (Graduate Student Senate); Thom Luce, Chair (UIC); Matthew Adeyanju (College of Health Sciences & Professions); Vicki Seefeldt West (International Outreach and Recruitment); Karla Schneider (Center for International Studies); Dan Weiner (Chair, Senior International Management Team) Katie Tadlock (Graduate College); Jeff Ferrier (Alden Library); Greg Emery (Global Leadership Center); Harvey Ballard (College of Arts & Sciences); Vibert Cambridge (Scripps College of Communication); Michael Parkinson (College of Fine Arts); Tiffany Schlein (International Affairs – OU Student Senate); Dya Apiningtyas Hening (I.S.U.) Joyce Pae (Admissions); Marian Carr (Center for International Studies) Guests: None Luce convened the meeting at 1:11 pm. The minutes from the November meeting were approved with minor corrections. Luce Introduced and welcomed new members and student representatives to the meeting. Chair’s Report – Luce presented two MOU’s. 1) Draft Memorandum of Articulation between Ohio University and American Degree Transfer Program Taylor’s University College Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. The draft was approved with typographical changes. 2) Ohio University and the University Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Linkages committee did not have an opportunity to view the document it will be on the agenda for presentation at the next meeting. SIMT Report Weiner presented a draft of the OHIO Strategic Internationalization Plan. It was noted that some of the information in the document was outdated. Committee members were encouraged to schedule time with Weiner to address outdated information and to discuss suggestions to implement other important aspects that were not originally considered in the draft. Completion of the final document is anticipated by the end of the quarter. The document will be on the agenda for discussion at the next meeting. Report from Student Representatives Kay-Anne Darlington (Graduate Student Senate) gave an update on plans to address health care issues for international students. Plans are also under construction to introduce a formal organization to integrate students into the community for students staying in Athens throughout the year for special holidays, like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Tiffany Schlein (International Affairs – OU Student Senate) gave a brief update on plans for Diversity week and also the need for the university to address housing in between quarters for International students. Dyah Apiningtyas Hening (International Student Union) Spoke about problems students have with the facilities offered at the Ping Center. She also suggested ways of making the sports and recreation aspect of the student experience at OHIO more meaningful. Committee Reports: Planning and Assessment No official report. International Travel Fund Luce asked for a faculty member to chair this committee Matthew Adeyanju volunteered. After some discussion funding for travel to Puerto Rico was approved. Study Abroad Ballard reported that they have received a number of program proposals. Linkages No report. Luce asked for other announcements or business. None presented. The meeting adjourned at 2:31 pm. The next meeting will be Friday, February 4, 2011 from 1 to 3 pm in 233 Baker Center.
