This class serves not only as an introduction to a wide range of computer related skills, but also as a way for students to prove their proficiency. The Computer Concepts and Applications class creates a rich training environment with visual demonstrations, online assessment tools, and creative opportunities. The skill set obtained as a result of the class will be invaluable to the student throughout his Ignatius career and beyond. The training modules and assignments will be constructed in the study it, learn it, show it, approach. This approach will maximize learning retention. Methodoligies: Students will be tested and trained on computer concepts, terminology and definitions, Internet concepts and related applications search techniques, ethical considerations and copy right laws, web site evaluations, research and citations, digital citizenship, Google Docs, and MS Office applications as well as the web-based software Naviance (College/Career Information) and SAM 2010 (Skills Assessment Manager), which will involve training, exams and projects performed both in-class and for homework. Students will become proficient in each application and skill set to pass the class. Attendance: Daily attendance is expected. Because of the condensed nature of this course, missing a day of class will jeopardize your ability to pass this course. Homework Policy: I will assign in-class homework daily and, on occasion, take-home work. You will be graded and/or tested on these assignments, and those grades will be included in your final grade. Cheating is defined as any act by which a student uses the work of another for his own gain. This includes looking at or attempting to look at the work of another. It also includes providing one’s own work to another, except when the teacher has recommended group study. 2. A cheating incident will result in the disciplinary actions described below: a. The classroom teacher will record “0” or “F” for the particular assignment. b. All cheating incidents will be reported to the Dean of Academic Administration. c.
