Introduction
This unit is designed as a topic covered for around 12 days in a Pickle Ball
section of the Physical Education course at the Middle School. This Pickle Ball lesson is
a part of the 8th grade physical education class. The students that participate in this
lesson do not need previous knowledge or Pickle Ball skills, however they do need an
interest in physical activity and capabilities to understand and apply the physical
fitness activities to their lives. The class will explore many types and varieties of
warm up activities, along with developing the skills of Pickle Ball. Class size is most
effective for 12-25 students.
This unit will take place primarily in the gymnasium. The unit will begin with
the students previewing Pickle Ball, in order to experience and find the baseline for
the student’s previous knowledge of Pickle Ball skills. Throughout this lesson, the
students will participate in a variety of fitness activities to increase their knowledge
on the importance of living physically active lifestyles.
This unit is designed to teach the students the basics of Pickle Ball, as well as
introducing them to simple fitness activities, in order to increase their knowledge of
staying physically active. This unit will require students to understand and apply
muscular endurance and strength, cardiovascular fitness, and flexibility making it an
excellent route for achieving physical fitness. This unit will promote cooperation and
social skills, as well as improving the student’s self esteem and confidence.
Goals, Standard, Outcomes
Students will be able to…
1. Think critically when asked about the history of pickle ball, court rules and
dimensions at the end of the lesson; as well as perform corresponded exercise
on during Four Square Fitness.
