Instructions
For each vocabulary term you must make either a
slide on Powerpoint.
The slide should include
The term & definition
The sentence in which it appears in the chapter
A sentence you create using the word
An image that helps you remember it and a one
sentence explanation of how the image connects.
Example
Perilous (adjective): full of danger and risk
Pg. 21 “The journey across the Atlantic was
perilous, but we survived.”
Skydiving may be perilous, but I’m not afraid.
I put a picture of a sea full of sharks because
swimming with sharks would be perilous!
Chapter One
Apprehensive: (adj) uneasy or fearful about something
that might happen.
Nurture: (verb) to care for and protect; to support and
encourage.
Awed (adj) filled with or expressing an overwhelming
feeling of admiration, and sometimes fear, as a result of
something grand, powerful, larger than life
Transgression (noun) Violation of a law or command, sin

adherence (noun) steady devotion, support,
allegiance, or attachment
chastisement (noun) discipline, especially by
corporal punishment
rarity (noun) something unusual, or uncommon

confused; perplexed
nondescript (adjective) not specific, not of a
recognized, definite, or particular type or kind
gravitate (verb) to have a natural tendency or be
strongly attracted (usually followed by to or

Relinquish (verb) to hand in, give back, or surrender
a possession, right, etc.
Exuberant (adjective) very enthusiastic, abundant
Invariably (adverb) always, without exception
Meticulous (adjective) taking or showing extreme
care about little details, precise, thorough

curb (verb) to control; to limit
aptitude (noun) capability; ability; natural or
developed talent
precision (noun) accuracy; exactness
vibrant (adjective) full of energy; lively
collective (adjective) something characteristic of a
group of individuals together; as a group
