
There are seven continents on planet Earth surrounded by 5 oceans. Each of the
seven continental landmasses is diverse and distinctly unique with their own
plants, animals, deserts, mountains, rivers, lakes, cultures, and weather. A
continent is larger than an island and is usually made up of multiple countries and
span millions of square miles. The 7 continents of the world are North America,
South America, Antarctica, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia. Some consider the
North and South American continent to be just one landmass referred to as the
“American Continent.” Europe and Asia continent are also combined at times and
referred to as “Eurasia.” The five oceans of the world, by largest in area first, are
Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Indian Ocean, Southern Ocean (also known as
Antarctic Ocean) and Arctic Ocean.
1. Label the seven continents and the five oceans of the world on the map
above.
2. Color the continents and the oceans.
3. Read “Fun facts about the seven continents” and then sort the continents by
largest in area first and smallest in area last.
