Project Name: Marketing Functions/Marketing Concept
Overview: Students will interact through note taking and discussion while viewing “What is Marketing” PowerPoint
and then they will be teamed together to discuss their “What is marketed” papers, to create a story on their experience
with the marketing concept, and to create their “Shapes of Functions.”

B Introduction. Marketing is a series of dynamic activities that focus on the customer to generate a profitable exchange. Students
gain knowledge and skills that help them to be proficient in one or more of the marketing functional areas associated with
distribution, financing, marketing information management, pricing, product planning, promotion, purchasing, risk management,
and selling skills. Students integrate skills from academic subjects, information technology, interpersonal communication, and
management training to make responsible decisions. This course may include paid or unpaid career preparation experience.
C3 The student demonstrates the importance of marketing as well as the functions of marketing. The student is expected to:
A explain the marketing concept; and
B describe each marketing function and how it illustrates the marketing concept.
Software: Microsoft Office
Materials Required: Computer, Projector, Paper, Markers (materials may vary based on what they need to complete
their shape. You can have them contribute their own materials or supply them with what you think they will need.
Prerequisite Skills: Click here to enter concepts students should be familiar with to be successful in this lesson.
Time Required: Students will need 3 Days (50 minute classes)
Procedure: Present “What is Marketing” PowerPoint (Students will need to take notes of the marketing concepts in
addition to key concepts related to marketing), Hand Out “What is Marketed” and “The Importance of the Marketing
Functions” notes, have students create a story to share with the class on their experience with the marketing concept
(may write a script instead and act this out if they want to during their presentation), have students complete the
Shapes of Functions Product, team will present their “What is Marketed” notes, their paper (or skit), and their Shape
and discuss the components of their product.
Closure: Teams will present their “What is Marketed” notes, their paper (or skit) on the marketing concept, and their
Functions Shape and product.
Evaluation: Completion of What is Marketed, Presentation of their story (may be a skit), Present Function Shape
Differentiation Strategies: Alter based on individual needs: buddy system, extension of time, reduction of work.
