Many Rivers Yoga Teacher Training Program
at Journeys in Yoga
Letter of Engagement 300 Hour Yoga Alliance Registered YTT Program (2016)
Our Mission:
Many Rivers 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training Program at Journeys in Yoga, llc builds upon the foundations learned at the 200 hour
level. We are dedicated to providing an affordable, diverse educational experience that focuses on advanced study of teaching yoga
while supporting the participant in refining and honing their skills as a yoga teacher.
Below you will find the structure and policies of the program that you need to agree to before you proceed, just to make sure we
are all on the same page. We also need some personal information and your goals for yourself as you embark on this new
adventure: please see space for these items at the end of this letter. Congratulations on beginning this exciting journey!
Special Note:
The sustainability of the 300 hour program is 100% dependent on student participation. A minimum of 10 students registered and
paid for any given training weekend seven days in advance of the start date is required for any given training to be held. While we
feel confident, based on the interest survey that we conducted in fall of 2015 and the robustness of our 200 hour training program,
that we will have sufficient interest in this program it must be acknowledged that this program will take quite a bit of time and
commitment to complete. For students beginning the program on January 22, 2016, it will take about two and a half to three years
to complete. In addition to January 22, 2016 the only other time students may begin this program in 2016 is April 22, 2016. As the
program proves its sustainability we will open up more start dates in 2017 as well as more required and elective courses in 2018 and
beyond.
We cannot guarantee that a student who begins this program will be able to finish it (i.e. if there is not enough participation we will
not continue to offer the trainings). It is also important to note that according to Yoga Alliance rules, one must complete all 270
contact hours with one school. In other words, if you complete 60 (or any other number less than 270) contact hours with the Many
Rivers 300 hour Yoga Teacher Training Program, these hours cannot be transferred to another school.
General information on the curriculum:
Many Rivers Yoga Teacher Training complies with the curriculum set forth by the Yoga Alliance for the 300 hour program for the year
2016. We update the curriculum as the Yoga Alliance requires. The YA requires 270 contact hours out of the 300. Contact means
hours spent in training with live instructor(s). The other 30 non-contact hours are earned doing homework/reading assignments, etc.
while not in the presence of any instructor(s). More details can be found at www.yogaalliance.org and we recommend that you read
their site and requirements. The current curriculum is as follows:

Techniques, training, and practice: 50 hours

Teaching Methodology: 5 hours

Anatomy & Physiology: 15 hours

Philosophy/Ethics: 30 hours

Practicum: 30 hours

The remaining hours are to be distributed among the educational categories, but the hours may be allocated at the
discretion of each RYS based on their program’s focus
Specific information on the curriculum:
We have designed the 300 hour program with a measure of flexibility for the student to gear their learning toward their interests.
To that end, we intend to offer 210 required hours of training which everyone must complete. Additionally we intend to offer 78
hours of elective courses, of which students may choose whatever 60 they desire. Hence 210 + 60 = 270 total contact hours.
Because many of the trainings will be offered by outside presenters, some of the projected chronology of offerings will likely shift
over the course of this two and a half to three year program. We will concretely program a calendar year at a time.

Topics covered:
The requirements of this program will engage in an exploration of yoga postures in a range of styles, anatomy and physiology,
therapeutic applications of yoga, yoga for special populations, meditation, Ayurveda, Sanskrit study, chakras, meridians, nadis,
mudras, and yogic philosophy. Additionally our elective offerings will cover such diverse topics as Stand Up Paddle Board Yoga and
Kids Yoga.
In order to graduate from the program you must complete the following:
270 total contact hours must be completed in order to graduate. This is further divided among 210 Required hours and 60 Elective
hours. Some weekends will require preparatory homework/reading assignments which are also required in order to graduate; that
is how the other 30 non-contact hours will be earned.
Policies and Expectations:
 The completion of a 200 hour program and a consistent yoga practice are the prerequisites for the 300 hour program. Any
200 hour program will suffice as a prerequisite, it doesn't have to be our MR YTT 200 program but it can be. The 300 hour
program is a more in depth training designed for those already with a foundational training to build their skills and add
more tools to their yoga teacher tool box.
 The Yoga Alliance is a yoga teacher registry. The Yoga Alliance itself does not certify teachers, although it does set general
guidelines for the curriculum of teacher training programs who wish to affiliate with them.
 If you have chosen to register your 200 hour training (assuming the school you went to is a Yoga Alliance registered school;
Many Rivers Yoga Teacher Training is, as well as many others) when you register your 300 hour training credential, your
"title" as far as Yoga Alliance is concerned is RYT 500 (200 + 300 = 500). But again, the fact that you've completed x amount
of training hours (200, 300, or a total of 500) doesn't change based on whether you've registered with Yoga Alliance-registering with Yoga Alliance is a personal choice. See our “200 hour program FAQs” and “300 hour program FAQs” pages
at www.manyriversyoga.com for more discussion of Yoga Alliance and credentialing.
 Students cannot simultaneously earn hours toward their 200 hour and 300 hour programs. A 200 hour program must be
completed before beginning the 300 hour program.
 We expect you to arrive on time and remain for the duration. Coming and going throughout the weekend is detrimental to
your learning process as well as the learning process of others.
 If you only attend a partial weekend, you must sign in and out accordingly. There will be no refunds for portions of any
weekend training missed.
 Payment is due seven days in advance of each training offering. Online payment is encouraged. Pay online via
www.manyriversyoga.com. Choose “pay for training” from the menu on the left. If you plan to pay with cash (exact change
only, please) or check (made out to Many Rivers Yoga Teacher Training) please do so in person at Journeys In Yoga (111
South magnolia Drive Tallahassee, FL) at least seven days before the training begins.
 There are many proprietary styles of yoga which require additional training through specific programs. We do not claim to
train yoga teachers in any proprietary style of yoga.
 You will be asked to fill out an anonymous online survey of the program after you graduate.
 Successful completion of the 300 hour Many Rivers Yoga Teacher Training Program may result in a recommendation for
employment but does not guarantee employment at Journeys in Yoga or elsewhere.
Best Practices for a successful Yoga Teacher Training experience
 Take good care of yourself--especially during our training weekends! Be prepared to sit on the floor as comfortably as
possible. We have yoga blocks and blankets as well as a small number of folding chairs which can be used for that purpose
but please feel free to bring whatever you like to make yourself comfortable (i.e. stadium seat, meditation cushion, folding
chair, beach chair, etc.). And of course make sure you sleep well, and eat enough fuel and drink enough water to keep the
body happy so that the mind can focus.
 Complete all of the “Preparation Guidelines” provided for each training weekend which is usually reading or some other
reflection exercise
