Let’s try to, you will be able to get a feel for the process scientists go through when trying to sort and categorize their findings Planet Categorization Form team of 2-3 As a team, look through the list of criteria to consider on page one of your handout Discuss with your team which of these criteria you think would be best for creating your own definition of what a planet is. Now, try writing a definition of planet of your own. You can include any of the parameters you wish, but your definition can’t be the same as the IAU’s DMA 11/5/12 Planet Categorization How is the categorizing going? Consider revising your definition if you are having trouble categorizing the objects. Finish categorizing When you are finished categorizing, write a summary explaining: What your definition of a planet is Why you categorized the objects as you did How many planets do you have? 8? 9?
