About this position:
Provide technical support for the asset maintenance program at Pacific Rim National Park Reserve. Assets include a
combination of: road infrastructure; highways and bridges; buildings and structures (historic, contemporary and
reproductions); cultural assets; historic landscapes; recreational facilities including campgrounds, day use facilities,
beaches, trails/boardwalks and golf courses; fortifications; canals and locks; dams; marine facilities; avalanche
equipment; vehicles and heavy equipment fleets; boats; plaques; public utilities i.e. potable water distribution and
treatment systems, wastewater systems, electric power systems, solid waste systems, climate-control systems; radio
communications systems and petroleum storage tanks.
What is Required?
Education: 
Secondary School diploma, supplemented by post-secondary training in a construction trade to
journeyman level OR a 2 year College Diploma in Engineering or Architectural Technology, OR an
equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Estimating materials, human and financial resource requirements for minor asset maintenance,
Capital/ re-capitalization projects; prepare requisitions; draft terms for both service and construction
contracts and specifications;

AT THAT TIME, YOU WILL BE RATED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
Knowledge:
 Knowledge of methodologies used to plan, install, manage and maintain facilities and assets;
 Knowledge of how to complete facility inspection for public and staff safety, maintenance requirements and to ensure
a positive experience for visitors utilizing facilities;
 Knowledge of safety requirements working in the field and on construction projects as well as some knowledge of
construction and maintenance code compliance, the Canadian Labour Code, Occupational Health and Safety and
Provincial worker safety standards;
 Knowledge of contracting processes and budget management;
 Knowledge of vehicle, vessel and small equipment maintenance and safety requirements.

 Ability to conduct work-site inspections to gather information on the status of project work and on compliance with
project plans, specifications, codes and schedules and report findings and work deviations/infractions to the manager
or senior technician;
 Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing;

 Ability to plan, initiate, contract, coordinate and oversee projects, adhering to schedules set time lines;
 Ability to provide public presentations when required;
 Ability to plan and prioritize workload (i.e., projects, public enquires, asset and permit monitoring);

Willingness to learn to operate small marine vessels;
Travel and work in terrestrial and marine environments and a variety of weather conditions; travel in small vessels,
float planes and helicopters;
Willingness to work from remote locations for extended periods of time.
