Cove Road School
June 2014
Letter from the Principal
Dear Parents, Guardians, Teachers, and students:
It has been an amazing year at Cove Road School. As the Principal of Cove Road, I am
extremely proud of our students and how they grew intellectually and socially throughout the
year. We are very fortunate to have an outstanding staff that promotes higher order thinking
skills that allow our students to excel in the classroom. The staff is very nurturing and always has
the best interest of our students. Thank you to all the parents that support our mission and being
a positive influence in your child’s life.
This Spring, our students participated in the NJASK Assessment. The students prepared all year
for this Assessment. Because of their hard work, they participated in our first “NJASK Pep
Rally”. Students were given an opportunity to relax and have fun before taking the Assessment.
Career Day was a huge success, as our students learned about many career opportunities. I
would like to personally thank the Career Day Teacher Committee (Mrs. Hornacek, Ms.
Pasquale) and Mrs. Guida and the PTO for organizing this great event.
The Science Fair was held on May 22nd for 5th graders and May 23rd for the 6th graders. The
theme of this year’s fair was ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. Students enjoyed the opportunity
to showcase their finding to their fellow classmates. The 6th grade class will be visiting the
Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum on June 13th.
A special that you to our PTO Board, Mrs. Callahan, Mrs. Guida, Mrs. Butler and Mrs.
Szutyanyi, and all the parents who supported their fundraising efforts. Because of your hard
work, students and staff benefitted from your efforts.

Read 180 Program
READ 180 is a reading program that directly addresses individual needs through
adaptive instructional software, high-interest fiction and non-fiction readings, and
direct instruction in reading and writing skills.
The Students in Mrs. Parleman, Mr. Matthius and Mrs. Campbell’s Language Arts Literacy
classes participate in the Read 180 program. The students work daily in three stations: the
computer, where students read and spell at their own pace, independent reading and small group.
As in all Language Arts classes, our students read several novels throughout the year and focused
on improving writing.
Mr. Matthius’s READ 180 class has just completed its fifth workshop entitled “No Small Hero.”
They are currently reading the Holocaust Unit novels Daniel’s Story and Number the Stars.
Health Office: Mrs. Joyce Cline-Blasi, RN
Information for 5th grade parents – Required Immunizations for 6th Grade
Many of you have already sent in proof of the required immunization for 6 th grade (Tdap,
meningococcal). Thank you. For the remainder of the students, please send it in as soon as your
child receives the shots. These immunizations are required to start school in September, 2014.
I realize some of your children do not turn 11 years old until the summer or later and this will
delay them getting the immunizations. If your child turns 11 years old in September or your
child’s appointment for the immunizations isn’t until September or later, I will need an
appointment card by September 3, 2014 from your child’s doctor with the date that the
immunizations will be given. If you have any questions, please call me at 732-264-5050, Ex.
4003. Thank you for your cooperation.

Hope You Have A Most Successful June And Wonderful Summer!
It has been my pleasure serving you and your student this school year. Having parental support
and open lines of communication is an essential part of any successful school year. Thank you
for all you have done to make this year so fulfilling and memorable for our school and your
student.
Summer time is a relaxing time for both students and parents but also a perfect time to keep
those recently learned skills intact. Parents can purchase the summer reading books at your
favorite book store or visit your neighborhood library. The library is filled with adventures that
would interest your student. But with some imagination, you can make learning fun and maybe
already have planned summer activities. Some quick suggestions: There are museums to
explore, outdoor parks to learn from, even amusement parks can be educational. National and
State Parks offer suggestions, from inviting families to participate in scavenger hunts to learning
about the habits of animals in the region. Don't forget about the historical parks in our area. One
way to pass the time and engage thinking skills is to pick up a basic game of chess. An old
fashion chess board is affordable, requires no electronic access, taken to any pool or beach and
will withstand heavy wear and tear. CHECK it out MATE!
Well, this does it for me for this year. Congratulations to our sixth graders going to HMS. I am
sure they will do well and not only make their parents and family proud, but, be proud of
themselves. Congratulations to our fifth graders going into sixth. I also know you will do your
best.
This letter is not a "GOOD BYE". I would like to say "So Long". Have a wonderful, safe and
enlightening summer and please remember sun safety.
Most Sincerely,
Mrs. Baldini
