The Outsiders – Final Project Choices
Listed below are OPTIONS for your final project. Choose ONE project and DO YOUR BEST!
SEQUEL:
There is no sequel to The Outsiders, but I would love to know how you would write a story about
the lives of the characters FIVE years after the story ends. Choose four characters in the novel,
and describe their lives. This can be written from first or third person point of view. The new
ending should be logical and thorough using the proper voice and details from the original
story.
CHARACTERIZATION POSTER:
Make a poster of your favorite character from The Outsiders. Use text evidence and the six
methods of characterization to express how this character has been developed. Use your
graphic organizer as a guide, but make the poster CREATIVE. You can make a “wanted”
poster, an “In Memory of…” poster, a “Vote for…” poster, or any other ideas you can formulate.
SYMBOLISM BOOK:
Make a “big book” explaining SIX symbols in The Outsiders. Each page of the book should
have:
Name of the symbol
An illustration or visual representation of the symbol
An explanation of how this symbol was used and incorporated into the novel
SLANG DICTIONARY:
Create a dictionary with TEN “slang” terms from The Outsiders. This dictionary should look like
a real dictionary and each entry should appear as it would in a dictionary. This requires you to
use a real dictionary as a guide and make your entries look just it (include part of speech,
definition, sentence, etc.)
