Junior Awards 2016 APPLICATIONS MUST BE TURNED INTO THE COUNSELING OFFICE BY FRIDAY FEBRUARY 26th Alfred University CANY SoE Award The Kazuo Inamori School of Engineering at Alfred University and the Ceramic Association of New York (CANY) are presenting an award to high school juniors who meet the following criteria: *Students must have a solid mathematical and scientific background while also excelling in English. Elmira College Key Award – 1 M & 1 F Candidates must be confirmed in the top 10% of the junior class, have an academic average of above 90, and demonstrate outstanding school and community leadership. Nominated students may be selected to receive a scholarship valued at $15,000 per year for up to four years upon acceptance Elmira College. George Eastman Young Leaders Award – University of Rochester Nominations are based on juniors with a strong academic background, outstanding leadership skills and extensive extracurricular activities. Nominated students may be selected to receive the University of Rochester George Eastman Young Leaders Scholarship upon enrollment at the University of Rochester. Le Moyne College Heights Award Recognizes juniors who are “reaching for the heights” in the classroom and in service to their community. The student will have achieved at least a 90 average in college preparatory curriculum; be ranked in the top 10% of the class; and scored a minimum of a 50 on each of the three subsections on the PSAT. The student will also have made significant contributions in leadership and service to your school and community. Multicultural High School Achievers Award – SUNY Albany Award is designed to recognize outstanding academic, school, & community leadership among students of African American, Hispanic, Asian, and Native American ethnicity. RIT Computing Medal - Rochester Institute of Technology – 1 M & 1 F The Medal is awarded to a junior who ranks in the top 10% of their class, is taking college-preparatory course work, and demonstrates good citizenship. In addition, the student must have demonstrated an interest and ability in computing. Evidence of interest and ability may include: o o o o superior grades in computer classes completion of a school/community project (webpage development, multimedia presentations, software development) a high level of computing in other areas such as business, science, math, art, design, etc. RIT Innovation and Creativity Award - Rochester Institute of Technology - 1 M & 1 F The award is given to a junior who ranks in the top 10% of their class, is taking college-preparatory course work, and demonstrates good citizenship. In addition, the student must have demonstrated outstanding achievement in innovation, creativity, or entrepreneurship. o o o Innovative use of technology in areas of business, science, math, art, crafts, design, film, animation, or photography. Developing innovative solutions to problems such as starting their own business, innovative community service, or extensive involvement in activities related to sustainability and the environment. Creation of a new or unique project in art, crafts, film, animation, or photography using divergent thinking, imagination, and/or risk-taking. o St. Michaels’ College Book Award for Academic Achievement with a Social Conscience – 1 M & 1 F Presented to 2 juniors who are members of NHS and demonstrate a social conscience thru sustained and sincere commitment to community service both at the school and local community level. Nominees who attend St. Michael’s College will be considered for the Book Award Scholarship. St. Lawrence University Book Award Presented to a junior who has devoted their time to community service, through which they have distinguished themselves in their school community. An actual book is awarded to these students, along with a $4,000 scholarship ($1,000 per year for 4 years) for those Book Award recipients who apply and are admitted to St. Lawrence University. School Boards Institute “Children First” Student Achievement Awards Seeks to honor one high school junior and one BOCES junior from each of Oneida, Madison and Herkimer counties (2 students from each county). Selection criteria should also include students who have overcome significant adversity while maintaining success in the school program Student Sage Award - Russell Sage College – 1 M & 1 F Awarded to two juniors who embody the following criteria: academic and social leader, ranks in top 25% of the class and puts their knowledge into action by being a leader in their school and community. Recipient receives a certificate of nomination, and an invitation to Russell Sage College Student Sage Scholars’ Reception. The student will also be eligible for a scholarship to Russell Sage College. Wells College 21st Century Leadership Award Awarded to a student in the junior class who demonstrates outstanding leadership ability in high school and community activities and has achieved a cumulative GPA of a 90% or higher. Upon successful enrollment at Wells College the nominee will be awarded a scholarship valued at $10,000 per year for four consecutive years of student at Wells College. ________________________________________________________ DEPARTMENTAL AWARDS Please see the teacher listed for each award to express your interest Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award – University of Rochester Awarded to a junior who has successfully completed 9th and 10th grade science courses and one semester of an 11th grade science course. Student must exhibit academic excellence in science courses and have taken a rigorous course of study. Winners of the Honorary Science Award are automatically considered for the Bausch and Lomb Science Scholarship. Anthony Award in Humanities and Social Sciences – University of Rochester A successful candidate is a junior who demonstrates strong leadership, exhibits academic strength in the areas of humanities and social sciences, and demonstrates a commitment to understanding and addressing difficult social issues. CLARKE IS ROOM 221 Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology – University of Rochester Nominations are based on juniors who demonstrate a strong interest in innovation and/or information technology and are proven to be high achievers in this area relative to their peers. Student must also exhibit an enthusiasm for the use of technology in service of others, for example, development of websites, creative use of technology within the school or community. Students must exhibit strength in math, science and technology as well as leadership. Must be ranked in the top 15% of class. This award earns qualifying students $15,000 per year for four years while attending Clarkson University. PLEASE SEE MR. Students must exhibit strength in math, science and technology. Must be ranked in top 15% of class. LAGATTA IN ROOM 423 Rensselaer Medal Award – Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute The junior honored with the Rensselaer Medal the student must be in the top 10% of their class, demonstrate potential for success in a challenging academic setting, excel in advanced math and science courses, and be involved in extracurricular activities.
