About Athirappilly falls
Athirappilly Falls is situated in Athirappilly panchayath in Thrissur district of Kerala, on the southwest
coast of India. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River near the Vazhachal Forest Division and the Sholayar
ranges.
Originating river
The 145 kilometres (90 mi) long Chalakudy River, originates in the Anamudi mountains of the Western
Ghats and flows through the Vazhachal Forest toward the Arabian Sea. At Athirappilly Falls, the water surges
around big rocks and cascades down in three separate plumes. Below the falls, the river remains turbulent for
about 1 kilometre (0.62 mi) until it reaches Kannamkuzhi.
How to reach
Air: The nearest airport is Kochi International Airport, about 85 kilometres from airport to waterfall.
Rail: The railway station nearest is Chalakudy, about 32 kilometres from Chalakudy to waterfall, From Thirssur to
Athirappilly is about 65 kilometers.
Road: Athirappilly is easily reachable from Chalakudy is about 32 Kilometers by taxi or by bus from the Chalakudy
private bus terminal.
When to go
Athirappilly falls attract visitors from across India, especially during the monsoon months (June–
September). About 7 million tourists visit the falls and the Vazhachal picnic spot each year.
Movies
The scenic beauty of Athirappilly falls has always been attractive to filmmakers. This falls is used as a
location for several Malayalam Films. Major portion of 1986 Tamil movie Punnagai Mannan was shot near the falls,
the Falls itself playing a role in it. It made the Falls a popular one in Tamil Nadu that it got the nickname "Punnagai
Mannan Falls". The 2007 bollywood movie Guru used Athirappilly Falls as one of its locations. Rajiv Menon, the
cinematographer of the movie, chose Athirappilly Falls as a background for one of its songs. The falls are also
famous as a site location for Narumugaye Narumugaye, a song from the Tamil film 'Iruvar' acted by Malayalam
superstar 'Mohanlal' and actress 'Madhubala'. This falls is also a major location in the Hindi Film Raavan and Tamil
Film Raavanan.

About Munnar
Munnar is a hill station in Kerala and in southern India. Munnar is located on the Western Ghats, situated
in the Idukki. The name Munnar is believed to mean "three rivers", referring to the town's strategic location at the
confluence of the Madhurapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundaly rivers. The town has shared a strong cultural link with
Tamil Nadu. The Munnar town is in Kannan Devan Hills ( KDH ) Village in Devikulam taluk and is the largest
panchayat in the Idukki district having an area measuring nearly 557 km².
How to reach
Air: The nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, which is 140 km away.
Rail: The nearest major railway stations are at Ernakulam and Aluva (approximately 120 km by road).
Road: The nearest bus stations is Aluva approximately 107 km by road.
When to go
The best time to visit Munnar would be October to November and from January to May when it is
comfortably cold. There may be occasional rains which will give a misty experience of Munnar. September just
after rains it would be like one of the best experiences in Munnar with verdant green tea gardens and and good
amount of water in waterfalls on the way to munnar. It will be just great if you don’t mind occasional shower.
Place to visit
Pothamedu (6 km from Munnar**): Pothamedu offers an excellent view of the tea, coffee and cardamom
plantations in Munnar. The rolling hills, the lush mountain and the breathtaking scenery here is ideal for trekking
and long mountain walks.
Devikulam (7 km from Munnar***): This idyllic hill station with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool
mountain air is a rare experience. The Sita Devi Lake with its mineral waters and picturesque surroundings is a
good picnic spot. The lake is also ideal for trout fishing.
Pallivasal (8 km from Munnar*): This is the venue of the first Hydro Electric Project in Kerala and a place of
immense scenic beauty.
Attukal (9 km from Munnar*): A panorama of waterfalls and rolling hills, Attukal, located between Munnar and
Pallivasal, is a feast for the eyes. The place is also ideal for long treks.
Nyayamakad (10 km from Munnar***): Located between Munnar and Rajamala, Nyayamakad is a land of
breathtaking waterfalls. The waters cascade down a hill from a height of about 1600 metres. The enchanting
surroundings make an excellent picnic spot and trekking point.
Chithirapuram (10 km from Munnar***): With its sleepy little cottages, bungalows, old playgrounds and courts,
Chithirapuram still exudes an old world charm. Home of the Pallyvasal Hydel Power Project, this hill town is also
famous for its picturesque tea plantations.
Mattupetty (13 km from Munnar*****): Situated at a height of 1700 m, Mattupetty is known for its highly
specialised dairy farm - the Indo Swiss Livestock Project. Over a 100 varieties of high yielding cattle are reared
here. Visitors are allowed into 3 of the 11 cattle sheds at the farm. Visiting time: 0900 - 1100 hrs and 1400 - 1530
hrs. Rate Rs. 5 per head. The Mattupetty lake and dam, just a short distance from the farm, is a very beautiful
picnic spot. The sprawling Kundala tea plantations and the Kundala Lake are other attractions in the vicinity. DTPC
Idukki provides boating facilities on the Mattupetty Dam. Speed launch, slow speedboat and motorboats are
available on hire.
Lock Heart Gap (13 km from Munnar***): This is an ideal place for adventure tourism and trekking. The fresh
mountain air, the mist-clad hills and panoramic view make it worthy of a visit.
Eravikulam National Park (15 km from Munnar***): The 97 sq. km. park is situated in the Devikulam taluk and is
home to the Nilgiri Tahr. The Anamudi peak (2695 m) is located in the southern region of the park.
Sanctuary visit: The park is divided into three regions - the core area, the buffer area and the tourism area. Visitors
are allowed only to the tourism area which is in the Rajamala region. The Nilgiri Tahr can be observed at close
quarters here.
Visiting time: 0800 - 1700 hrs. Visitors are not allowed during the monsoon.
Entry pass: Rs. 10 for adults Rs. 2 for children below 12 years Rs. 50 for foreigners
Echo Point (15 km from Munnar*****): This scenic place gets its name from the natural echo phenomenon here.
Echo Point is on the way to Top Station from Munnar.
Power House Waterfalls (18 km from Munnar**): This waterfall on the way to Thekkady from Munnar cascades
down a steep rock 2000 m above sea level. The spot is enriched with the scenic western mountain ranges, and is
an ideal place for a break on the way to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Thekkady.
Kundala (20 km from Munnar**): Kundala is a picturesque town on the way to Top Station. The Golf Course, which
belongs to Tata Tea Ltd., is located here. The Kundala artificial dam is another attraction. Aruvikkad Waterfall is
also near Kundala.
Anayirankal (22 km from Munnar**): It's a lush green carpet of tea plants. A trip on the splendid reservoir is an
unforgettable experience. The Anayirankal Dam is surrounded by the Tata Tea Plantation and evergreen forests. It
is an ideal picnic spot.
Top Station (32 km from Munnar*****): 1700 m above sea level; this is the highest point on the MunnarKodaikanal road. The rare Neelakurunji (Strobilanthus) belongs to this region. This plant blooms once every twelve
years bathing the hillsides in bright blue. Top Station also offers a panoramic view of the neighbouring state of
Tamil Nadu.
Photo point (2km from Munnar*****): Tea garden which is famous for its views and in the way the place looks in
photos. Really this was a very good place to be photographed. This beautiful place is on the way to Mattyppetty

About Idukki dam
The district's name, 'Idukki' is supposed to be derived from the Malayalam word 'Idukku' which means a
narrow gorge. The Idukki Dam, located in Kerala, India, is a 168.91 m (554 ft) tall arch dam. It is built on the Periyar
River. The dam stands between the two mountains - Kuravanmala (839)m and Kurathimala (925)m. it is one of the
highest arch dams in Asia and third tallest dam in India. It was constructed and is owned by the Kerala State
Electricity Board. It supports a 780 MW hydroelectric power station. Technically, the dam type is a concrete
double, curvature parabolic, thin arc dam.
History
In 1947 Sri.P.Joseph John,then Chief Electrical Engineer to the Government of Travancore made a
preliminary investigation report. On the request made by the Government, the Central Water and Power
Commission took up detailed investigation in 1956. The project report was prepared in 1961 and the Planning
Commission accorded sanction for implementing the scheme in 1963 and the preliminary works of the project
were started. The project was posed for Canadian aid and its scope was enlarged and a revised project report was
drawnupin1956-66.
The construction of this Dam commenced on 30 April 1969. Storage of water in idukki reservoir commenced in
February,1973. The inauguration of trial run of the first machine was celebrated on 4th October,1975 by Indira
Gandhi.

About Alappuza
Alappuzha ( pronunciation (help·info)) (Malayalam: ആലപ്പുഴ), also known as Alleppey, is a city in
Alappuzha District of Kerala state of southern India. It is the administrative headquarters of Alappuzha District. This
town is considered to be the oldest planned town in this region and the lighthouse built on the coast of the town is
the first of its kind along the Arabian coast (reference encyclopedia of Kerala in Malayalam language). As per 2001
census Alleppey is the sixth largest city in Kerala with an urban population of 177,029. Alleppey is situated 62
kilometres (39 mi) to the south of Kochi and 155 kilometres (96 mi) north of Trivandrum. A town with picturesque
canals, backwaters, beaches, and lagoons, it was described as the one of the places known as "Venice of the East"
by Lord Curzon .Malayalam is the most spoken language. Hindi, English and Tamil are also widely spoken in the
town.
Other attractions in Alleppey are Alappuzha Beach, offering one of the most beautiful views of the Arabian Sea,
Ambalappuzha Sri Krishna Temple, Edathua Church, and Champakulam Valia Palli. Krishnapuram Palace[6] also
attracts many tourists. The tasty ambalappuzha payasam is a popular dessert.
How to reach
Air: Trivandrum International Airport and Cochin International Airport are the nearest airport. Trivandrum to
Alleppey (150 km) and Cochin to Allepepy (75 km) can be covered by the call taxis at a rate of about Rs 15 per
kilometer. Trivandrum and Cochin are connected to most of the major cities in India.
Rail: Alleppey is well connected by train to Cochin and Trivandrum. Alleppey railway station is within the city limits
Road: KSRTC buses are plenty which are connecting all the major cities in Kerala. Trivandrum to Alleppey costs less
than Rs 100 and Cochin to Alleppey costs less than Rs 50. Private luxury coach buses are available to interstate
destinations like Bangalore, Chennai and Managlore.
When to go
The summers are muggy till the rains break and bring wet relief in June. The slush becomes all-pervasive, and so do
the green and the bugs. Hardened travellers wouldn’t mind but novices and strictly pleasure travellers should stick
with the October to February official season, which definitely is the best time to be in Kerala.

About Veegaland
Wonderla (Veegaland) is the most popular amusement park in Kerala, India. The park, which is run by the
Chittilappilly family which also owns V-Guard Industries, and Wonderla amusement park in Bangalore. The park is
situated on the top of a hill at Pallikkara, 12 kilometres (7.5 mi) from the city of Kochi. The park was set up in 2000
and was designed by architect Joseph John. In April 2011, Veegaland became a part of Wonderla as part of a
consolidation exercise.
How to reach
The nearest Railway Station is almost 15kms away - Ernakulam North. In case your train does'nt stop at
Ernakulam North, you can get down at Ernakulam South. From both the places Veegaland is connected with public
transport as well as Taxi. Beware of the taxis as they may charge you premium fixed rates to Veegaland. The base
location of Veegaland is Pallikkara.
When to go
The climate of Kochi remains hot and humid for most of the year. Summers last from March to June and
are warm, dry and humid with the maximum temperature reaching up to 37°C. Winters in Kochi last from October
to February and are the ideal months for visiting the city as the temperature is cool and dry and the temperature
ranges between 17°C to 33°C. The best time to visit the place is from October to March.
Timing
The Veegaland Amusement Park is open on all days. The Weekday timings for the park are from 10:30 am
to 6:00 pm, whereas the Weekend and Public holidays timings are from 10:30 am to 7:00 pm.
