108 Maple Hall Iowa State University, Ames, IA, 50013 January 21, 2012 2115 Timber Lane, Coralville, IA, 52241 Dear Mother, As a response to your agitating questions on how my experience at Iowa State University has been, I have decided to write a letter about my experience. My experience at the lovely and prestigious Iowa State University has been an experience revolving around three places. These three places have quite a large impact on my education. These so called places are referred to as parks library, Ross hall, and Coover Hall. A classic Monday, Wednesday, Friday would consist of the following, heading out to from my dorm room,(located at maple hall) to cover hall for the second and third class of my day, then enjoying my time at Parks library. A classic Tuesday, Thursday would be heading out to Ross hall for my politics class, and then followed by reviewing and doing homework at Parks Library. These places will forever be remembered, in good and bad, and in sickness and in health. I will never take it for granted. My first encounter with Coover Hall did not occur till the second semester. This hall has become a foundation of a home for me. Room 2245 being the only room I go to, in this newly acquired building. The auditorium fills up till the top. Finding seats is always a challenge as it is a small and packed place for a class. The seat which calls my name is located in the middle isle and in the very center of the room. This building which was built in 1950 is mostly intended to be a place for engineers. This building has been renovated a couple times, resulting in adding more classrooms to occupy different fields of study. I mainly assumed that I would never enter a place that engineers would call themselves at home. Wrongly did I know that I would have a geology, and speech communications class in the same building. The first encounter with the parks library was an awkward one. Where do I go? Where is the most effective place to study? These were the mind boggling question which answers to were unknown. After conducting some research, I slowly figured out the most effective places to study. It has been home to the many famous cram sessions before testing periods. The library was named after Robert Parks, the former Iowa State president. First built in 1925, it has grown enormously over time. Its quiet basement consisting of tall book shelves and cubbies make you feel isolated from the world. It is a place to be if you are trying to get some real work done. My time spent here is too large to account for. Although it is mostly not a fun place to be surrounded in, I have become quite accustomed to it. This large establishment consists of 4 levels; I have been to every possible inch on every level. I have tried to study in any possible place, in which I have evidently found out that the best place to study has been in the basement. It is not a very popular because it is mostly isolated, but it gets the job done. The library’s central location has helped it be accessible quite easy, being in between Coover hall and Heady hall. This allows me to recess info I have learned about in the previous class. The famous Ross hall, home to mainly Political science and social studies classes has been my third home to me. In there I have had the most classes out of any building. Since my major choice is political science, it comes to no surprise why I have chosen this building as my home. Politics has been always my favorite subject to study, and where else would I go other that Ross Hall at Iowa State University? It is where my academic advisor does all his work, and where most of my politics classes take place. Its oddly shaped building which mostly represents a box has become my home. First built in 1973, you can definitely tell that this building has aged. It does not have the same feeling as Coover hall which has been remodeled many times. This building has age and is quite easily noticeable. My roots belong in this building. This building is in the process of making my future. These three building are what make me. They are in my blood, and brain, which will never escape me. It is things like these that I will remember forever. The history of this university, being the first land-grant university, and the overall atmosphere is something that makes it unique and distinct. It’s something that you will not see at a normal university. It was the reason I choose to be a cyclone, and forever will be a cyclone. I hope this has answered all your questions. Talk to you soon. Love, Your son
