Present tense of –er verbs
Remember verbs that end in “er” are called –er verbs. To conjugate a verb means to write the
appropriate ending for the person you are talking about.

Remember the –ent is silent so when you pronounce Ils regardent, you will pronounce ils regard.

J’aime un peu faire du sport. = I like a little playing sports.
Helping Verbs
In this Unit you learned one helping verb.
Aimer = to like
If you want to say I like to do something such as I like to play volleyball or I like to sleep, you will
conjugate “aimer” only and leave the other verb as the infinitive.
Ils aiment aller au ciné. = They like to go to the movies. (Notice “aller” is not conjugated.)
Negation
In French to say NOT, you have to use 2 words Ne(N’) and Pas. You put ne before the verb and pas
after it. If there are 2 verbs, use the conjugated verb.

Patricia n’aime pas faire du sport. = Patricia doesn’t like to play sports.
Vocabulary
Review the vocabulary list I gave you for Unit 2. You must know all different activities you like
to do.
Know how to ask “what do you like to do?” = Qu’est-ce que tu aimes faire?
Know how to answer “I like to ….. and I don’t like to…..” J’aime…Je n’aime pas
Know how to say “but” = mais

Example: J’aime jouer aux jeux vidéo. Par contre, je n’aime pas regarder la télé. = I like to play
video games. On the other hand, I don’t like to watch t.v.
Be ready to speak about at least 3 things you like to do that use different verbs and 1 thing that
you don’t like to do.
