Great Generation Think to yourself... do you know someone you think is great? What makes them great? Spend a moment thinking about this person, thanking God for making them, and for their influence in your life. Father God, I thank you for today. I thank you that I have a home, a family, friends, an education, health, and hope! Bless me in all I go through today. Be with me as I share your light with those around me. Amen The greatness of the man is not in how much wealth he acquires, but in his integrity and ability to affect those around him positively – Bob Marley "Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is man-made and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings... Recognise that the world is hungry for action, not words. Act with courage and vision... Overcoming poverty is not a gesture of charity. It is an act of justice. It is the protection of a fundamental human right, the right to dignity and a decent life. While poverty persists, there is no true freedom. Sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom. Of course the task will not be easy. But not to do this would be a crime against humanity, against which I ask all humanity now to rise up.” – Nelson Mandela, 2005 A grateful heart is the beginning of greatness. It is an expression of humility. It is a foundation for the development of such virtues as prayer, faith, courage, contentment, happiness, love, and well-being. James E. Faust Spent a moment thinking about all the blessings you have in your life. Write them down in the shape of a love heart or think in silence. Offer your gratefulness to God in a moment of prayer. The first letter of St Paul to Timothy (4:12-16) Do not let people disregard you because you are young, but be an example to all the believers in the way you speak and behave, and in your love, your faith and your purity. Make use of the time until I arrive by reading to the people, preaching and teaching. You have in you a spiritual gift which was given to you when the prophets spoke and the body of elders laid their hands on you; do not let it lie unused. Think hard about this, and put it into practice; and everyone will be able to see how you are advancing. Take great care about what you do and what you teach; always do this, and in this way you will save both yourself and those who listen to you. What does it mean to be great? 1. Wilma Rudolph What do you think about the following quote by William Shakespeare? Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. – Do you think this is true? Do you believe that people can have greatness thrust upon them? Are we doing as we can as a school to empower you to be great? Are you doing all you can? Creator God, you made the earth and all that is in it. You made, you know me, you love me. How great is our God Holy Spirit, be the air I breathe, the energy I want and the strength I need to be great! How great is our God Jesus Christ, you call us to live a life of love, justice, peace, and service. May we follow your example How great is our God May today there be peace within. May you trust God that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith. May you use those gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you May you be confident knowing you are a child of God. Let this presence settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us. - attributed to St. Thérèse of Lisieux and St. Theresa of Avila
