Simile • A comparison using “like”” or “as” • Ex: • Her checks are as pink as a rose. • She is pretty as a red rose. Alliteration • The repetition of the first word in most of the letters in the sentence. • Ex: • Sally sold seashells by the sea shore. • The sea looked so pretty when the sun came out. Paradox Metaphor • Direct sentence. • Ex: • Anthony is weird. • Norma is Funny. Imagery • To make the sentence realistic in your mind. • Ex: • The cake made a smoke of good smells. Rhyme • When words sound alike. • Ex: • Dime/time • Rose/dose Personification • When you give something non-human human personalities. • Ex: • The sun smiled at me. • The moon looked at me while I lied on the grass.
