Module 1: Assignment 4 1 Krystal & Ladash Tolen CBSE 3203 Professor Petruso Module 1: Assignment 4 Module 1: Assignment 4 2 Technology has been an important tool in today's world. It has been more and more effectively integrated in schools and classrooms. It has had a major inspiration and effect on the style of teaching pedagogy in many ways. The “Global Age” has transformed the teaching style of literacy and has significantly impacted different types of learners. Globalization is a process by which the experience of everyday life, marked by the diffusion of commodities and ideas, is becoming standardized around the world. Some ideas that have contributed to globalization include increasingly high-tech communications and transportation technologies and services. The Global Age is one of the most fascinating services that has already been shaping the future of the world we live in. The global age has changed teaching techniques significantly; information is always available to students with just a click of a button. Websites that specialize in Science, Math, English and more are made available over the Internet. Many schools provide educational programs to encourage students to study more even outside of the classrooms. Some of the programs include RAZ kids for literacy and IXL for math. As educators we have the power to provide our students with materials that would inspire them to succeed. Search engines such as Google could help and assist in generating quality educational performance. As a full time student and educator myself, I couldn’t imagine a world without technology. Some of the ways that the teaching of literacy has been altered by the Global Age is that has expanded and provided teachers with more ways and resources to reach their students, work on problem areas, and assess their progress. A student and educator have ways to stay connected with each other outside of the classroom. Web tools such as blackboard helps students communicate with their educators and access information that may have also been provided in class. This tool has helped many college students. Incase of any emergencies and a students isn’t Module 1: Assignment 4 3 able to attend class, a tool like this would be helpful to keep a student up to date with work. During my fieldwork observations, I learned that classrooms are filled with diverse learners. Each child has a different learning method. New York City’s classrooms consist of students from all over the world. The pedagogy style must be designed to each student’s learning needs. Some students are visual learners and require visual aids; some are auditory, kinesthetic and tactile learners. With the global phenomenon that is the Internet, no child should be left behind, as there are many educational possibilities that educators can use to benefit each student. The Global Age has helped the diverse learner because it has increased the amount of resources a student can use, and has given unlimited access to information. We are able to use technology to more effectively help and engage with students of different cultures, which may speak different languages. I have observed that students are more interested in learning and retrieving information through the use of technology. It is much more preferred and convenient to read the news, or even access an E-book, than actually going to the library and taking out a book to read. It also helps save trees and waste less paper! Teachers must conform to the new world of global age and use it to their advantage to help reach out to every student and help them succeed. Diversity and literacy are interconnected. When a classroom consists of, and in most cases they do especially in New York, have diverse learners in their classroom, the educator must be able identify such differences of learning styles, and have the ability to apply different strategies of direction to adapt. Technology can help the various learners, because it can be used to overcome some of the language barriers that may be present between students and other students and educators.
