Flash Cards for Sight Words Two to three minutes per day 1. Make flash cards with the first five words. Practice each day until the student can read them all easily (less than two seconds a word). 2. When the student can do the first five words easily, make cards for the next five words on the list and add them to the stack. When you need to add five new words, remove five that the student knows well and save them. 4. Continue taking away five words and adding five new ones until the student knows all the words on the list. 5. Every month, go back and read the whole pile—all of the new words and all of the saved words. Other ways to practice sight words: Say a sentence out loud that has the word in it. Write them on your forearm. Say the word, write each letter as you say each letter, and then say the word when you are done writing. Write the word in the air.
