1st Six Weeks – Week 1
This Weeks News…

What we are working on…
 Please try and get all paperwork turned in as
soon as possible. Check your child’s behavior
fold daily for important notes.
 Writing –
- Generating ideas for writing by identifying
nouns in their lives; conveying ideas by drawing
and speaking.
 Supplies are also due this Friday, August 29th.
If you can’t get them to me by Friday, please let
me know and we can work something out.
 Stations – Introduction to the following stations…
- Library – how to handle books, how to file
books, and how to behave in the library.
- Fine Motor – using hands to develop fine
motor skills. Ex: playdough, lacing, using
tweezers, etc.
- Creation – Making creative art projects.
 Please return nametags every day if
your child is wearing one home.
 Today we read The Gingerbread Man and went
on a school tour in search for him. Locations
that we searched for him included the
cafeteria, library, nurse’s office, and the office.
Ask your child about this adventure!
 Most of our time this week will be spent working
on rules and procedures. Please ask your child
what they have learned about the following:
1. Lining Up
2. Going to the restroom
3. Using supplies
4. Centers
 Phonics / Word Study – Recognizing that names
are made of letters; discriminating letters from
numbers; identifying letters and recognizing the
difference between a letter and a word.
 Math – School rules and routines; individual
assessments.
 Science – “Gingerbread Man” and “The Kissing
Hand” activities; safety
 Social Studies – Basic needs and belonging.
Sight Words
Each week I will introduce 3 sight words/high
frequency words. Being able to read and spell these
sight words is the key to reading and writing success!
Students who know these well are more fluent in both
of these areas, so review and practice these words daily.
***This week we will be putting each child’s name on
the Word Wall in addition to these words:
