THE PARTS OF A COMPUTER

WHAT ARE THE PARTS OF A COMPUTER THAT MAKE A COMPUTER A COMPUTER?

THERE ARE MANY THINGS IN A COMPUTER BUT,

WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT MAKE IT WORK?

THESE PARTS ARE WHAT I WILL BE PRESENTING TODAY.

ONE OF THE FIRST IMPORTANT PARTS IS THE

CPU/PROCESSER

What this small machine basically does is process all of the commands you put into the computer.

An example of this is typing in something in your Google search bar. That CPU processes it, and allows what you type to go into the search bar.

Without this small part, you wouldn’t be able to type or even move your mouse!

Every key you type in, that CPU processes it. So, typing is one type of command.

There are many are many other commands and some, can be as simple as that.

This is what a CPU looks like.

THIS IS ANOTHER

IMPORTANT OBJECT

OF THE COMPUTER

This here is a motherboard. A motherboard is the computer’s main circuit-board.

It is a thin plate that holds the CPU in place, it holds memory, (GB – MB –

KB.) It also holds connecters for the hard drive and something called an optical drive.

Also, it controls expansion cards which control the video/audio and the computer ports (where the USB drive goes in).

THIS IS PART IS CALLED THE POWER SUPPLY UNIT.

What this part does is quite interesting in my opinion. It converts power from the outlet in the wall, into power NEEDED by the computer. It sends the converted power through cables to the motherboard to power the entire computer!

THIS IS CALLED THE RAM (RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY)

What this is, is basically your computers (system) short term memory. What that means is whenever your computer does something, or performs calculations, it temporarily stores data (or space) until it’s needed for something. But, if you turn your computer off, the memory disappears. If you want it to be kept there, (like a document) you’ll need to go to file and save it. RAM, like the motherboard, is measured in MB or GB.

The more RAM you have, the more things you can do at the same time.

THIS IS CALLED A HARD DRIVE

A hard drive is where all the software is installed into your computer. It is also where all your documents and power points are stored. Unlike the RAM, it is the long term memory part of the computer. When you run a program, the hard drive will copy some data onto the RAM. The faster your hard drive is, the faster your computer will load and turn on.

EXPANSION CARDS

There are many different kinds of expansion cards. I will be telling you about he video card, the sound card, and the network card. All very important to the computer.

WHAT IS AN

EXPANSION CARD?

Most computers have something called expansion slots which are on the motherboard. These slots allow you to add different types of expansion cards. These are sometimes called PCI (peripheral component interconnect) cards. You may never have to add any PCI cards because, have built in video, sound, network, and more.

VIDEO CARD

A video card is responsible for what you’re looking at on the monitor

(like a PC, a screen). Most computers today have a GPU (graphics processing unit) built into the motherboard instead of having an entirely different video card! That’s a big space saver! If you like playing games with really cool graphics, then you can add an even faster video card to one of the many expansion slots to get an even better performance!

SOUND CARD

The sound card, also called an audio card (no kidding) is responsible for everything you hear in the speakers, headphones, earbuds, etc.

Most motherboards have integrated sound , but if it’s not good enough, then you can upgrade your sound card to something called a dedicated sound card for higher quality sound.

NETWORK CARD

The network card allows your computer to communicate over a network and able to access the Internet. It can either connect with an Internet cable, or through wireless connection, often the term used is WIFI. All you may see is a pretty phone case, but this little thing is in your phone allowing you to look up whatever you want! Many motherboards have built-in network connections, and if you add a network card, your network will be even better!

BLUETOOTH CARD

Do you know what Bluetooth is? Ever heard your parents talking about it? Well, in my opinion, Bluetooth revolutionizes technology! Basically what Bluetooth is is a technology for wireless communication over short distances. It’s often used in computers to communicate with wireless keyboards! How cool is that! Anyway, It is used to communicate with wireless computers, mice, and printers. It’s usually built right into the motherboard OR in a wireless network card. If you don’t have

Bluetooth, people have already thought of what to do! You can buy a

USB adapter, or a dongle, can be purchased.

THIS CONCLUDES THE END OF MY POWER POINT.
