PERFORMANCE MEASURE
Freedom of Maneuver Mission Planning
CONDITION
This practical exercise should have the student demonstrate the fundamental understanding of
troop leading procedures, and the ability to plan and execute a mission plan that minimizes
tactical risk to movement operation and troops.
STANDARD
The students should be able develop and execute Freedom of Maneuver Mission Plan;
demonstrating an offensive mindset while conducting ground movement operations.
APPLICATION OF AFGHAN TEACHING TECHNIQUES
The practical exercise will be conducted through the instruction. Each student will be provided
with the check list handout and the trip ticket hand out. The goal is to expand student
comprehension using proven small group learning and enable soldiers to share experience and
learn from one another. Discussion is encouraged. The instructor must use his interpreter to listen
to student observations and answer questions. Repetitive training is a must; ensure each student
has an opportunity to fill the role of RCP Platoon leader.
TRAINING/EVALUATION
Evaluation Preparation
Setup: Employ training aids as the RCC would potentially encounter during a RC mission, and
emplace ambush opposition forces as needed. Instructors will break the class into small groups;
identifying a platoon leader within the group, and arrange the convoy order. Students will be
provided an area to construct a terrain model for mission planning.
Brief Soldier: Give students a Patrol Briefing Hand Out for a Freedom of Maneuver mission;
students should conduct all troop leading procedures to focusing on the conduct of an effective
map reconnaissance and including the construction of a terrain model to be used in briefing the
mission to subordinates. Students may use contracted instructors or interpreters as their
subordinate leaders.
