Idiomas y su utilidad Por: Shail Weesner Gilkey es una escuela especial. Su sistema de lengua ha sido posible por los maestros y maestras excelentes aquí. El sistema de lenguaje es que, además de continuar el idioma que ya sabes, puedes aprender un nuevo idioma. Posiblemente, tu estas pensando que esto podía ser lo mismo en otras escuelas, pero esto no es verdadero, porque aquí en vez de solo enseñar idiomas, enseñamos cultura. En Gilkey todos los maestros o maestras son nativos, su forma de enseñar es afectada o hasta creada por la cultura o área de dónde son. Aquí en Gilkey nos enseñan que el lenguaje sí está conectado a la cultura. Esta conexión entre lenguaje y cultura es evidente, un ejemplo de esta conexión es España y Barcelona . En Barcelona hay diferentes celebraciones y formas de actuar, creadas por un diferente idioma. En Gilkey nos enseñan algo más importante de unas formas del lenguaje mismo; la cultura. La cultura y lengua son importantes pero algo también que Gilkey ofrece, al menos algo que los maestros enseñan es ser una estudiante internacional. Para mí esto significa que simplemente es alguien que acepta tradiciones y las culturas del mundo. Para ser un estudiante internacional no es ser alguien que sabe todas los lenguas o culturas es alguien que ve que ninguna cultura es mala sino, diferente. En Gilkey nos enseñan esto mostrándonos un nuevo lenguaje con todas las sorpresas de una cultura nueva. He hablado sobre la cultura y sobre lo que es un estudiante internacional pero no realmente he hablado de la lengua. Estudiar otra lengua, como Gilkey ofrece es un privilegio grande que ayuda en el mundo alrededor. Nos da otro pasó a ser todavía más estudiantes internacional. También siempre es útil poder hablar con otros. Voy a decir una vez más que también con una lengua nueva hay una cultura, experiencia y perspectiva nueva. Todo no es perfecto con el sistema de Gilkey. Para mí hay algo que debemos hacer. Esta cosa es que debemos solo una vez por semana, enseñar Latín! Yo se que el latín es una lengua muerta pero en muchos lugares ayuda. Unos ejemplos de porqué debemos usar son: 1. Todavía está en uso. Probablemente ésto no se sabe, pero en unos lugares, especialmente Italia y Grecia hay lugares donde personas que hablan y comprenden Latin. Como en Roma muchas cosas ( no solo cosas turísticas) son inscritas en Latín. 2. Muchas lenguas están basadas en el. Esto no necesita ser explicado 3. Tiene un historia interesante. Además de este problema la variedad de idiomas de Gilkey es genial. Con la gran variedad de lenguas de Gilkey es dificil de escoger un idioma que sea el que me encanta más. Para mi el español fue perfecto por un variedad de razones las más grandes eran que ya podía hablar español, tengo sangre parte espanica y por su popularidad, que deje a mi ser más consciente sobre tópicos internacionales. Ahora el español ya ha tomado gran parte de mi vida, es crucial para entender para entender partes de ingles y comunicarme con partes de mi familia. Esto solo es un idioma. Languages and their use Before I begin let me just say that everything special about this school is because of the amazing teachers here. Guilkey is a special school, with a special language program. The thing that makes this school unique among all other middle schools is that you get to learn three languages, one english, one other that you already know and one that you are going to learn. Some other schools may do similar things but at Guilkey they teach the culture and language. How they do that is they make sure that all of the teachers were born and raised in a place that spoke the language that they are teaching, for example if you were teaching German you would be born or raised in Germany. What this does is so that not only do you get the language out of it you also get many cultural things like celebrations, day to day experiences that they had that we don't do in the U.S, and customs. If this is a bit confusing then I would like to give you the example of Spain and Barcelona. Barcelona is trying to break away from Spain currently. Barcelona was once just another piece of Spain, but then slowly the use of a new language began to become in use. Shortly afterwards Barcelona developed different customs different clothing, different food, and even its own football (soccer) team. It began to be completely different all because a language. So if you can't see already that at Guilkey we not only teach language but something equally important, culture. Culture and language are both important here at Guilkey but there are things at Guilkey but another important thing that they teach here is being an international student. To me being an international student means not someone that knows every language but someone who can accept every culture as an equal to his own, someone who realizes that no culture is better than any other. This is taught here by learning a new language and accept a new culture one more step if not the final step towards being a international student. Yet another thing that we learn here is another language. This has many uses but as I have said before that the most important is being an international student. What Guilkey offers is a huge opportunity. You can become trilingual or in some cases bilingual. That is a huge thing. All is not perfect with the system of Guilkey. For my is there anything we should do. This thing is that we should only once a week, teaching Latin! I is that latin is a dead language but in many places aid. A few examples of why we must use are: That is still in use. In addition to this problem, the variety of languages of Guilkey is great. With the wide variety of languages of Guilkey is hard to choose a language which is the love you more. You could be like me and choose Spanish or could choose another language. Everyone has different reasons. For my the Spanish was perfect for a variety of reasons some of the larger ones were that he could already speak Spanish, I have blood part espanica and its popularity, which let to my being more conscious about international topics. Now the Spanish already take great part of my life, is crucial to understand to understand parts of English and communicate with parts of my family. This is only a language.
