Latin Studies 1 Week of Monday, Nov. 18, 2013 Monday Lesson Objective: The learner will be able to recognize the tense signs of the future and imperfect tenses of the 1st & 2nd conjugations and understand the English translations for these tenses Assignment: Chapter 5 Vocabulary Introduction; Future & Imperfect Tenses Pass back completed work. (Juliett to stay in class?) Prepare • Latina est Gaudium et Utilis, p. 47 • Vocabula, p. 42-43 (read & discuss) • Listen and repeat the Latin vocabulary words. (audio files) Present / Compare • Wheelocks pp. 40-42. (Emphasize formula, comparisons, & translations). Remind students to take notes! • Define in Latin Terms: Tense Sign - an “infix” placed between the present stem and personal ending that indicates either future tense (bi) or imperfect tense (bā). Present System: comprised of the present, future & imperfect verb tenses - all of whose forms are based on the present stem (infinitive minus “-re”). Tuesday Lesson Objective: The learner will be able to memorize chapter 5 vocabulary & paradigms and practice yesterday’s grammar lesson through workbook exercises Assignment: Chapter 5 Memory Work! WB - Grammatica #1-7; Vīs Verbōrum - all Prepare • Memorize Chp. 5 vocabulary. Spend A LOT of time doing this today as we will be going through the chapters at a faster pace now that our very fundamental grammar basics have been covered. • Memorize your Future & Imperfect Tense Endings of the Present Indicative Active (Make Index Cards! See pp. 40-41 — bō, bis, bit, etc; bam, bās, bat, etc.). Don’t forget to note what auxiliary (helping) verbs are needed to translate these tenses (will & was/were). • Read Wheelocks pp. 40-42 - stop before Adjectives of the First & Second Declension in -er • Optional: read A Comprehensive Guide to Wheelock’s Latin, pp. 41-44. Stop before First & Second Declension Adjectives in -er. Complete the exercises within the reading and check your answers in the back of the book. Express/Apply • Complete the assignment above.
