Annual Student Group Review 2010
For all ASG A-Status Student Groups
Application Guidelines:

Completed Applications are due by 11:59 pm on Friday, January 29th
via email to the FVP (malavika@u.northwestern.edu) and your AE.

All material must be typed, one-sided, and professionally done. Use 1”
page margins all around, in Times New Roman or Arial and 10 or 12pt.
Please no extra binding materials. MAXIMUM 10 pages. Anything
beyond 10 pages will be thrown out.

Do not deviate from the sample application, it will help us review your
application efficiently.
A completed application includes:
 Adherence to the above guidelines
 Following the format and answering all the questions in the SAMPLE

Martin Luther King Day Speaker, SAF Funded, Pick Staiger, 600
The MLK Day speaker was …. The program was in honor of the Dr. King celebration.
Spring 2009

Fall 2009
ASG Thanksgiving Dinner, Not SAF Funded, 200
The dinner was a service provided by ASG for a more traditional, non-food service dinner
catered by local restaurants.
Winter 2010
Martin Luther King Day Speaker, SAF Funded, Pick Staiger, 600
The MLK Day speaker was Ramsey Lewis. The program was in honor of the Dr. King
celebration.
SERVICES
ASG Copier, SAF funded, 3rd floor Norris
Approximately 100 students a week use this service to help them with their printing and
publishing.
PUBLICITY

MEETINGS
Does the group have regular executive board meetings? When? Where?
Yes, Wednesdays 5:00pm, Alumni Room-Norris University Center
Does the group have regular general body meetings? When? Where? What is
discussed? Attendance Rate, explain if necessary.
Yes, Wednesdays 7:00pm, Northwestern Room-Norris University Center. Around 85% of
the membership attends. We debate and pass legislation and hear Executive Board &
Committee Reports.
ADVISEMENT
Does the group have contact with a CSI, Student Affairs, Departmental or any other
university official? Who is that?
Yes, Helen Wood, CSI & Mark Witte, Faculty-WCAS
Who is the primary intermediary and what is the primary nature of the relationship
(i.e. what do you go to them for, if at all)?
Executive Board officers primarily interact with advisors. The level of advisement is broad,
dealing with contracts, programming issues, interpersonal relations, university regulations,
and advice.
Please describe your relationship with your account executive.
The president and the treasurer are in contact with our account executive (the FVP) weekly
to inform them about our programming and financial affairs.
FINANCIAL OVERVIEW
Please give an adequate financial overview of your organization without being
verbose. The following topics may be used in your overview [How and where does
your organization generates revenue (fundraisers), Relative Importance of the SAF,
What does your group spend its outside income on, do you charge dues or other
membership fees, etc., How the group maintains the 3% in its outside account]. The
following is a very short sample.
The ASG operates on a yearly budget passed by the Senate. Most of operating funds come
from the SAF in this Senate Budget. Without the SAF, administrative and programming
functions would be limited. Most of the funds are used to fund part of MLK Day activities
and the Senate Project Pool. Administratively we purchase lots of paper, operate a server
for student group use, and support numerous committees and the Senate with meeting
materials.

What were your group’s major accomplishments during the time period of Winter ’09
to the Present? Please explain.

please describe how your group is accomplishing this mission. How do you know that
things are working? Why is your group still relevant to the Northwestern University
Student Body?

We will not collect SAFB feedback until the annual review process has completed,
however please use this space to include additional items of IMPORTANCE that you
feel we neglected to survey your group on.
CONSTITUTION
A current electronic version of your constitution must be submitted by email to your
Account Executive by the application deadline. If your constitution is not in
electronic form, it must be typed into electronic form. You may be asked to review
your constitution under the terms of your annual review.
