Welcome back! Have a wonderful 2014-2015 school year!
Counselor’s Corner- Welcome Back! My name is Heatherlee Ryals and I am the new middle school counselor. I am
excited to work with all of the students this school year! Students will be completing Stanford 10 testing August 25-29.
There will be a fun afternoon activity for students who respect testing conditions on Friday, August 29.To help your child
perform to the best of his/her ability, it is important he/she get adequate sleep and eats a well-balanced breakfast. Please,

Communication Arts: This week we will work on reviewing the writing process and completing Stanford Testing. A class
syllabus was sent home on 8-21. It is for your information and does not need to be signed or returned. Each student also
received a copy to keep in their binder. Each student also received a Remind sheet that will allow you to sign up for
homework reminders and class info via text or email. If you have questions please let me know. My plan times and email

7th Grade Reading: Welcome to 7th grade! Last week, students visited the library and took the STAR Reading test to
determine approximate reading level and to pick out books. Please encourage your student(s) to set at least twenty
minutes aside each night to read in their A/R books. The A/R book is also part of the required material for Reading class
and should be with them each day. Students should have a class syllabus that will need to be signed and placed in their
reading binders. This week, we will be setting AR (Accelerated Reader) goals and becoming acquainted with our 7th
grade Prentice Hall textbook. Please feel free to contact me with questions/concerns, and have a wonderful weekend.

Pre-Algebra and Math: We have started a unit on algebraic relationships. Next week, students will learn to use the
order of operations and identify properties of numbers. Have you signed up for “remind”? Check your child’s syllabus or

of helpful information and resources there including a class calendar and notes from class. My digital library contains
many resources that students can use at home to practice the skills we are learning in class.

Science: This week we will begin our Inquiry unit by reviewing basic Inquiry vocabulary. Students will be identifying
variables, problem statements, hypothesis and constants. We will also continue to review classroom/hallway/lunch rules
and procedures. Please review our class room syllabus as well as consider signing up for Remind101 (one way text alert
for tests/homework reminders). Students received these last class. Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any

students will begin to understand the major components of geography specifically the five themes of Geography. If you

7th Grade Glimpse Mr. Stickel Social Studies: Students will begin to learn about the resources they will use this year in
class including globes, atlases and their textbook as well as internet resources. This week will be spent primarily making
sure that students understand the main themes of geography and how to use their text books and Atlases. If you ever
have any questions I can be reached by email at stickelj@huskers.k12.mo.us. I can also be reached by calling the middle
school office during my conference period. My conference period on Gold Days is from 10:10-11:20 or 1:45-2:50 on Blue
Days.
Rise- We will be discussing and identifying our learning styles this week by completing a learning styles inventory.

7th Grade Computer Literacy-We are working on memorizing the home row and basic computer etiquette. Students will
also be learning how to send and receive emails. They will be attaching and editing documents to an email and also
beginning to learn basic functions in Microsoft Word. Please feel free to contact me with questions/concerns.

7th Grade Art
Welcome to Art class! Students this week will begin a drawing unit. Their objective is to observe a still life and illustrate
what they see. They were given a syllabus and it has a supply list of the things they need for my class. This project
requires them to have a 2 pocket folder, 6B and 2B pencils, Magic Rub Eraser, Kneadable Eraser and Masking Tape.
This project will take approximately 2 weeks to complete.
Graphics I
Welcome to Computer Graphics I class! Students this week will begin desktop publishing. Their objective is to
demonstrate their ability to design and create Title Pages. They will work from their computer textbook to design and
create projects using MS Publisher software. They will need to bring their folders and pencils to each class.

7th Grade PE/Health Students will be Stanford testing next week. When they are in class we will be reviewing
expectations and practicing procedures. We will be discussing hygiene in health class and demonstrating fitness levels
through various activities that require running. All students should have a change of clothes for physical education class
and bring a folder and pencil for health. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us.

6/7TH Grade CA SP – Mrs. Lettau - We will be participating in the Stanford 10 testing during class on Tuesday. On
Thursday, we will go through the writing process and the 6 traits of writing. If you have questions, you may call me at 660584-7161 and leave a message or you may e-mail me at www.lettauc@huskers.k12.mo.us. If you need to talk to me
immediately, I am available on Gold days from 11:30-1:30 and on Blue days from 1:30-3:00.
FACS Students are learning about management of time, money and resources. This week they will be learning about
debt cards, checking accounts, and credit cards. If you need to contact me my conference times are B3 (10:04-11:30)
and G5 (1:34-3:00).

Band Our year is off to a great start! Our policies and procedures for band are in place and we will continue practicing
those throughout the year. This week we will dive into our review of music fundamentals. We will work on reading pitches
and rhythms. We will also be reviewing proper posture. Band shirt order forms with $11 are due by October 1 st. Please

Vocal- Welcome to vocal music! I am looking forward to this year and all of our choir performances. Students should
