6th Grade Glimpse
April 8 - April 12
Science: We will be continuing our body systems unit this week. We will be getting into the respiratory and
skeletal/muscular systems. Students should be able to list and describe the parts of each system as well as
their function. Students should also be able to describe how these systems interact with each other. Please
don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. Please take a look at our school web site at our
teacher web pages. This may be a valuable resource for you.

Plan Time: G3 and B4
Reading: Students were not assigned a reading log this week, but the homework is to keep working on 4th
quarter AR goals. This week, we’ll begin the novel, The Lottery Rose, a story of hope and compassion. We’ll
start with summarizing main events and identifying characters. Please feel free to contact me with
questions/concerns, and have a wonderful weekend.

Conference Time: GOLD 5 (1:30-3:00), BLUE 4 (12:00-1:30)
Math: Next week, students in G1 will review over Lessons 8-1 through 8-4 on Monday next week. Students
will have a quiz over those lessons on Wednesday. In G5 students will learn how to find area of rectangles,
parallelograms, and triangles (Lessons 8-3 and 8-4) on Monday with a review on Wednesday and quiz on
Friday. Students in B1 will take their Chapter 8 quiz on Tuesday next week. Students will then learn about
types and properties of quadrilaterals on Thursday.
Accelerated Math: Students in B3 will be learning about types and properties of Quadrilaterals and Triangles

Communication Arts: We will continue to work on MAP activities to prepare for the test. We will specifically
be working on using context clues, cause and effect, and editing. Reminder: All homework assignments that
receive a grade below a C may be redone for half credit. Assignments should be asked for that day and are due
the next class time. Encourage your student to take advantage of this opportunity if needed.

Social Studies: Students will be able to examine and compare ancient river civilizations specifically Ancient
Rome. Next week we will focus on the rise and fall of the Roman Empire. If you have any questions feel free to

Counselor’s Corner: Student Council’s next meeting is Tuesday, April 9th at 7:30am in the Counselor’s
Conference Room. The Executive Board will meet Monday, April 8th at 7:30am in the Counselor’s Office. We
will be planning for our end of the year activities, including Teacher Appreciation Week.

Keyboarding: Over the next two weeks students will complete five journal entries and five lessons to identify,
practice and key (type) the v, w, g ,b, u, q, period, comma, and forward slash keys. Assignment will be due by

Art: The students in this class will continue the mask making unit next week. They will begin the color portion
of the unit with reviewing color schemes, color wheel, and the elements of design. Students will be painting
so I encourage all students to bring in an old shirt from home to cover their good clothes for this unit.

Vocal: Students are preparing for the Spring Concert. This concert will be held on May 9 at 7:00 p.m. in the
West Gym. Students are also continuing to review notes on the bass and treble staff.

FACS: Students continue to work in the kitchen fixing simple recipes. We are also learning about table
etiquette.

Band: Our next playing test will be over measures 37-54 in Festivo Fantastico during the week of April 15th.

RISE: Students continue to work on the “Late Night with the Legends” project. The culminating event for this
project is a family participation night and will be held immediately after the Middle School concert on
Thursday May 9 (around 8:00 p.m.) The invitations were handed out today. Please RSVP to me with the

Health and Physical Education: The students will be able to incorporate math and communication arts into
health activities in preparation for MAP testing. In physical education class the students will be fitness testing.
They will be attempting to get outside to run the mile so please have them pack sweats and sweatshirts.

Health Enrichment: The students will be able to discuss the dangers of alcohol and tobacco by reviewing for a
test which they will take on Thursday, April 11th. They will be filling out a study guide with all of the
information needed for the test. They may get extra credit if they get the study guide signed.
