Counselor’s Corner: As the first quarter draws to an end, I look forward to catching up with each of you during parent
teacher conferences, held Thursday, October 18th. We have received Stanford 10 results and will be giving those to
parents at conferences. Peer Helpers are teaming up with Parent Network to prepare for Red Ribbon Week, October 2331. The group has generated several great ideas to educate students and encourage all to commit to a drug-free life.

SCIENCE: Students are finishing up a mini unit on Rocks and the Rock Cycle, they will have a test over this on
Wed(G)/Thur(B). On Monday students will review for the Rock test and complete a scenario. If you have any questions

7th/8th Health and Physical Education:
The student will be able to explain four ways to develop empathy and explain why tolerance is important to relationships.
In physical education class will be demonstrating their fitness levels through fitness testing. The students will be tracking
their own scores, so ask your student how they did. They will be able to show you their improvements. The students
have been instructed to bring warm clothes. If the weather stays in the 50’s and 60’s the classes will be going out to run
the mile. Please have your student dress warm.

8th Grade U.S. History Glimpse: Mr. Stickel
The students have been learning about the early settlers of the Americas that came from England to escape religious
persecution. We have also put a focus on the organization and development of early colonial settlements and the role
economics and religion has played. We will be wrapping up this unit soon and plan to have a test by Wednesday and
Thursday. Students will also be taking the end of the quarter progress test after they take their chapter 3 social studies
test. Please encourage your students to do their best on their progress test so I can truly find out what they have learned so
far this year. If you ever need to contact me I can be reached by phone at the middle school from 8:00-9:20 daily or you
can email me at stickelj@huskers.k12.mo.us.
Pre-Algebra: Next week, we will conclude on unit on graphs and functions. Students will review on Monday and
Tuesday and take the test on Wednesday (G4) and Thursday (B3 and B5).
Algebra I: We will continue our unit on inequalities next week. Students will solve multiple step inequalities and
inequalities with variables on both sides.

FACS We are starting the Foods Nutrition Unit. Students will be learning about Safety & Sanitation in the Kitchen.
Food Science Students are identifying additives and preservatives found in foods. They are learning about their purpose
and side effects they may cause.

7th and 8th grade RISE: Students will be reading books and using the Internet to research information for their
individual projects. They will use an index card method of recording sources and collecting notes. They will
be able to identify primary, secondary, and tertiary sources of information.

7th & 8th Grade Vocal
Students are finishing Unit 2 in the Sight Singing Books. Today, students completed an end of quarter singing
test over A Festive Gloria. Students are also working hard to prepare music for the Fall Concert. This concert
will be held on Tuesday, October 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the East Gym. Students will be wearing the blue long
sleeve music shirts, black pants, and black shoes. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Mrs. Sellman and Mrs. Lettau: Reading/Language Arts: We are currently reading The Pit and the Pendulum.
There will be a short quiz over the story next Wednesday/Thursday Gold/Blue Spelling: Blue day students will
received Unit 3 spelling packet on Friday, spelling work is due Tuesday with the test on the Thursday. A.R.: 2nd
quarter reading logs are due: October 26, November 9, 20, December 7, 21.One half of students goals are due
Wednesday, November 14. The last day to meet 2nd quarter A.R. goal will be Thursday, December 20. The 2nd

Graphics I
The students in this class will view and critique their class’ multimedia presentations.
Objective: Students will demonstrate their ability to design and create multimedia presentations.
Art 8
The students will begin a people portrait unit next week. The objective of this project is to observe and
illustrate a portrait of a person to appear life like using a grid enlargement method.
