Ladies
Fellowship
Ministry:
The Bible has much to say about anger and angry
words! It is one thing for us to laugh at little digital birds
that get their feathers ruffled over make-believe events
on a smartphone or tablet screen. No harm no foul—
just turn the device off and everything is fine. Feathers
are smoothed and dander is down where it belongs.
But when we humans get our feathers ruffled, it’s not
as easy to turn off as flipping a switch or pulling a plug.
And the events are not make-believe.
Anger is not to be treated casually. Instead, it is to be
treated carefully. There is a lot of anger in our world—
righteous and unrighteous—and we need to understand
how easy it is to slip into the latter kind where pain,
shame, and injury are possibilities, if not the result.
If you get angry or indignant about the millions of babies aborted each year, or the desperate plight of innocent people suffering at the hands of rival governments,
and you do what you can to impact these or other immoral or unjust dimensions of our world—keep it up!
You are in the company of Jesus (Mark 3:4-5), the
prophets (Ezekiel 34), the apostles (Galatians 2:11-14),
and God Himself (1 Kings 11:9-10). You are not retaliating out of anger due to personal injury; you are responding to the violation of a righteous standard of
God. You are reacting to the influence of Satan in our
world.
If you lose your temper and seek to carry out revenge
or vengeance toward others, blurt out targeted words of
disrespect toward someone, simmer and boil internally
with uncontrollable feelings of rage or resentment, or
think that God wronged you in some way—you are not
in good company (Proverbs 12:16; 15:18, 21:19).
God’s Holy Spirit can fill us (Galatians 5:23) and we
can get our ruffled feathers back in place before harm is
done.

July 2014
DID YOU KNOW? ...This
annual holiday marks the
date on which the Second
Continental Congress voted
to adopt the Declaration of
Independence, proclaiming
the sovereignty of the Thirteen Colonies from Great
Britian.
DID YOU KNOW? ...John Adams wrote, in a letter to
his wife: The second day of July, 1776, will be the
most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am
apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding
generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought
to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be
solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games,
sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from
one end of this continent to the other, from this time
forward forever more.
DID YOU KNOW? ...Why is Independence Day celebrated on July 4th? From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4th, because it was the
date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence rather than on July 2nd, which was the
date the resolution of independence was approved in a
closed session of Congress.
DID YOU KNOW? ...Another bit of interesting trivia
is the fact that most historians think that the Declaration was actually signed on August 2nd, 1776, nearly a
month after its adoption and not on July 4th, as is commonly believed.
DID YOU KNOW? ...Finally, John Adams
and Thomas Jefferson, both of whom had not only
signed the Declaration of Independence but went on to
serve as Presidents of the United States, died on July
4th, 1826. Another Founding Father who became President, James Monroe, died on July 4, 1831 becoming
the third President in a row to die on Independence
Day.
