Welcome to Winter 2016 M10 (CRN 30783)
Our shell Beoga.net will be available to you by Monday, 1/4. The cost is $65 for the winter term. Access will be
disabled the day of our final and if you would like further access you will need to request placement into a shell
that does not have access to tests and quizzes by emailing support@beoga.net. To purchase the material:
1. Go to www.beoga.net and click on the "Create new account" button.
2. Fill out all the required information and click "Create my new account".
3. Go check your email. You should see a message with the subject, "beoga.net: account confirmation".
Open that email and click on the link to confirm your new account. You will then be sent to a web site
with a list of courses.
4. Select the course titled, “Foothill Math10 - Winter 2016 - Butterworth”. WARNING: BE SURE TO
SELECT THE CORRECT COURSE!
5. Pay for the subscription to the beoga.net online textbook.
6. Go back to www.beoga.net and log-in to the course using the username & password you selected in step 2
above.
7. Once you are logged in to our class click on the "How Do I START? <-----Click here first!" link.
If you have problems with the login process please send an email to support@beoga.net for help.
Although you do not have to officially begin the session until January 4, I encourage you to begin looking at the
material as soon as possible.
ATTENDANCE WARNING: You are expected to attend class during the first week by logging onto Beoga and
introducing yourself in the DISCUSSION FORUM’S Non-Content Questions prompt “Introdcution.” If you do
not log onto BEOGA or send an email during the first 3 days of class with the subject line “Intend to Continue”
with body containing “Name, Student ID, M10 CRN#30783” I am required to drop you from my course. You are
expected to log onto Beoga daily and to make posts for every chapter in the DISCUSSION FORUM for each
chapter. If you are not actively participating, in this way, I reserve the right to drop you from my course (this is
not a guarantee, simply a right that I will reserve with a warning to you first). Students on the final grade roster
who have not dropped, and who do not show up for the final exam, automatically receive an F in the course – it is
your responsibility to drop yourself from the class if you don’t wish to continue.
Please be aware that I have a Skype account (profbutterworth) and can work with my students very much like
they are sitting beside me in my office. I share my computer screen and can write problems out, screen capture
them and email them. Skype is available by appointment.
FORUMS are a key component to our class and are a required part of the class this Winter (see syllabus for
details). The more questions you ask and answer in the FORUMS the more you will learn. I will monitor the
Forums and chime in when necessary, but it is part of the learning experience for you to participate and learn from
questions that others have and by answering questions that are posted. You should always starting by asking
questions in Forums and not by directing questions to me, otherwise you are depriving everyone of the
information that you will acquire (think of it as our on-line classroom). Here is how to subscribe to the Forums
once you are in Beoga:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
