influenced by its driver. As a rule, fuel savings of approximately ten percent can
be achieved through an economy training course at MAN ProfiDrive®. For 30
years now, the MAN ProfiDrive® instructors have been passing on their
theoretical and practical knowledge of safety and economy in road traffic. This
year alone will see around 6,000 drivers taking part in the training courses.
"The requirements that a professional driver has to meet have changed
drastically. Tight schedules, constantly changing vehicles and great cost
pressure characterise the profession today," said Werner Bigiel, Head of MAN
ProfiDrive®, on occasion of the international meeting of instructors from
December 5 through 7 in Munich. In addition, since the law on professional
driver qualification (BKrFQG) came into force in 2008, regular and repeated
advanced training is mandatory for every professional driver in passenger
transport (by 2013) and goods transport (by 2014). "The demand is immense
and we are booked out months in advance," continued Bigiel.
What began as "Drive and Save" training with Werner Bigiel in 1981 has
developed into what is today a broad range of services. Besides safety and
economy training courses for truck and bus drivers, MAN ProfiDrive ® also offers
complete advanced professional driver training courses, advanced training for
driving instructors and experts, intensive courses and off-road training. Since
2010 there have also been special hybrid bus training courses for the MAN
Lion's City Hybrid, which is in regular service in several European cities. The
permanent MAN ProfiDrive® team currently comprises 104 active instructors
from around the world.
