Kindergarten Parent Letter 15-16

Dear Parents,
Welcome to Napoleon Community Schools!! We are looking forward to a wonderful school year!
I wanted to share with you some information that may be helpful for you and your child as they begin
kindergarten. During the first week or so of school, the kindergarteners are hand sorted by the staff at
Eby Elementary when they are put on the school bus. Since there sometimes can be unexpected
questions about a student’s proper destination, please do not be overly alarmed if the time they arrive
at home fluctuates for a few days. Once things begin to settle in, your child should arrive home at about
the same time each day. Please do not hesitate to call the transportation office if ever you are
concerned that your child does not reach home within a reasonable amount of time. Our direct
telephone number is 517-905-5710.
I would also like to make sure that you know that it is critical that your child’s bus driver make visual
contact with an adult when your child is dropped off at their bus stop. If we are not confident that
someone is there to meet your child, we will attempt to reach you by telephone and if we are unable to
do so we will bring them back to school. It is very important to us that your child reach home safely, so
remember to change your phone number with the Transportation Department.
It is also important for you to know the schools policy on riding other buses.
Napoleon Schools
do not allow students to ride home on other buses except for family
emergencies. It is our goal to load our buses safely and efficiently. With a written note, a student
may get off at another stop on the same bus route. Without written notification or a phone call to the
transportation office, each student will be taken to their regularly assigned bus stop. Should a family
emergency arise and you need to make special arrangements, you must contact the transportation
office. Please do not call the school office or the teacher to make these
arrangements.
If you plan to pick your child up from school, it is very helpful if the bus driver knows that they will not
be riding. If you could please stop by the bus to notify the bus driver or call the transportation office so
we can let the bus driver know. You may also send a note with your child in the morning to give to the
bus driver. Once again our goal is to see that each of our students safely reach their proper destination.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Tonia Bearden
Transportation Secretary
